GAME 14 IN THE LEAGUE

1.G.Powell
2.J.Jackson
3.G.Hope
4.I.Barstable
5.G.Jackson
6.N.Maynard (wk)
7.Captain CF
8.N.Sammers
9.J.Long
10.S.McKenzie
11.P.Terry

Yet again i had the luxury of naming an un changed side consistency is vital!

i won the toss and chose to bat on a dry pitch, which i was sure would spin as the game went on...

They opened the bowling with spin. The ball did spin from ball one, however at the start it was slow spin, it did spin quite a bit though as the game went on. After the first 10 overs we reached 38-3 and was struggling. We were struggling to find boundaries early on, and with the field up singles werent easy to find as well. They bowled around 30-35 overs of spin in the innings and it was tough to play. i promoted my self to no5 as we needed a captain's innings. After 25 overs we had reached 80-3....we were building a partnership but the rate wasnt good at all. However i said to the man batting at the other end, that if we put on a partnership then we had wickets to attack towards the end, on this pitch wickets in hand was vital. However 2 overs after saying that, Hope tried a stupid reverse sweep and was plumb LBW! I was not a happy skipper and merely shook my head as he walked off. At that stage were 94-4 and in desperate need of a partnership! After 40 overs we reached, 140-4 the partnership was buliding and we had wickets in hand. i felt that we needed 200 to be honest, however 180 would be competitve we had pace off and spin options throughout the side. I then decided to start hitting out, we neeeded quick runs and i chose to be the man to do it. I made 66. We closed our innings on 179-7. Below par total but it was something to bowl at!

I gave the new ball to Sammers and told him to give it a rip. I was at slip and i put a short leg in to put some pressure on the batsman. The ball was spinning and i felt that we were in with a shout. This was the first time this season, that we had played on a wicket that spun this much....I gave my other spinner Mckenzie the new ball as well. After 15 overs they were 54-2. The rate was slow and we got both the openers... However at some stage pace would have to be used, and they enjoyed the pace...my first over went for 12 runs. However i dragged it back as did Long and terry my other seamers. After 30 overs they were 104-6.....!!!!! We had taken wickets however they were scoring runs at a decent pace! P.Loucs who batted 3 for them made 77 for them and was batting well until Sammers came back on and got him out LBW! The spinners bowled really well...at this stage Sammers had bowled 8 overs for 25! and Mc Kenzie had bowled out...his 10 overs only costed 34 and he took 3 wickets. With 10 overs left they needed 50 to win with 3 wickets in hand. i brought myself back on and bowled through, i took a wicket and in the end my figures were 10-1-1-36. Terry got the other 2 wickets as we won by 8 runs!!!!!!

We managed to defend the low total and pull of a win!

My performance: 66 with the bat, 1-36 with the ball.

WE WON BY 8 RUNS :D

Well done, CF. :clap You seem to have a good team. It helps the team in many aspects when the captain put on excellent contribution throughout the series. Nice that you are reading the wicket well and flexible with the tactics , taking one match at a time.

Phenomenal effort CF, it's games like these which define a season.
"Stats are there to be broken" Dominic Cork
"They took all our players away, banned our captain and we still came away with a ten-wicket victory" Jason Gillespie
"You won't get anywhere slouching about half out of bed" Geoffrey Boycott

GAME 15 IN THE LEAGUE:

Was looking forward to this, it was a local derby game agianst a side where we always have a close game......

1.G.Powell
2.M.Lesis
3.G.Hope
4.I.Barstable
5.G.Jackson
6.N.Maynard (wk)
7.Captain CF
8.N.Sammers
9.J.Long
10.S.McKenzie
11.P.Terry

Made one change to the side this week, Lesis came in for jackson, wanted a bit more aggression at the top of the order so Lesis got his chance. It was a home game and as it was a derby game we actually had quite a few people watching the game, considering its only club cricket!!

I won the toss and chose to bat on a dry pitch which once again shoud spin as the game goes on..We had a good net before the game and the batters were hitting the ball well so gave them first use of the pitch. After 10 overs we were 50-0. A good solid start and was happy with the first 10 overs. They had a very useful all-rounder in their side he came on first change and nipped the ball around a bit, so we were more careful against him. The first and 2nd change bowlers were much more effective than the openers, and they set about clawing back the innings for their side. We were scoring at a very good rate however we were paying the price for aggression by losing wickets...at the halfway stage we were 150-5 with 25 overs left...This brought me to the crease...as we were going along at a good rate i had time to get myself in and assess the pitch and the bowling. We looked to score 1's and 2's and the odd boundary to tick along at around 5 or 6 an over and build a partnership. Wickets started to go though at the other end, i kept my nerve though and kept ticking the board over...with 10 overs left we were 220-7 i was on 40, and decided that we needed to hit in these last 10 overs..We took the powerplay at 40 overs and decided to chance our arm. It was tough in the first 2 overs of powerplay as they got their yorkers in and were very effective. We ended up closing on 283-9....I finished on 80* another good score for me with the bat :D

283-9: CF 80*

2ND INNINGS:

After the first 10 overs of their innings we had them 2 down for 47 runs, a very good start for us. Ball was swinging and i new had plenty of spin options to turn to as well as the innings went on. I bowled 7 overs for 31 in my first spell wicketless but not too bad a few edges here and there didnt go to hand etc...However i wanted to save myself some overs for the end.....We then took 3 quick wickets in 14 balls, to leave them 80-5 after 20 overs! We were tearing through the line up with some high quality bowling and the batsman just couldnt play it.....they then put on 110 in 22 overs to leave themselves 190-5 with 8 overs left, they werent scoring anywhere near quick enough as the pitch detoeriated and they needed 97 from the last 10 overs with 5 wickets in hand. R.Winston top score for them with 65 but the others for them just fell away...as we bowled them out for 240 with an over left!!!!!!

WE WON BY 33 RUNS!!!!!!! :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap

My performance 80* and 0-31 from 7 overs.

GAME 16 IN THE LEAGUE!!

1.G.Powell
2.M.Lesis
3.G.Hope
4.I.Barstable
5.G.Jackson
6.N.Maynard (wk)
7.Captain CF
8.N.Sammers
9.J.Long
10.S.McKenzie
11.P.Terry

Same side Lesis keeps his place in the side as we look for another win as only a few games left and consistency is key..

I won the toss and chose to bowl......Looked a good batting pitch however there was grey skies and i backed us to get early wickets with a new swinging ball. We did manage to grab early wickets, we took 4 wickets in the first 14 overs for 70 runs....they scored runs at a decent pace however wickets would mean that their progress would be halted somewhat. They looked to be positive all throughout as it was a good batting pitch. Rather strangely for a club cricket game there was quite a few people watching the game and there was a pretty good atmosphere throughout! I gave myself 7 overs at the start only conceded 16 runs! for 1 wicket. After 40 overs we had them 170-7 and backed ourselves to knock them over. We did get them all out for 185 with 5 overs remaining and we backed ourselves to knock themselves over! I finished with with figures of 4-30 from my 10 overs.

THE CHASE:

The ball swung quite a bit for them as well but we were cautios early on, knowing that it wasnt a stiff target and wickets in hand were vital. However after 20 overs we found ourselves 70-4, we lost 4 wickets in a few overs. i came up the order to no6, to try and steady the ship. me and Lesis who was still on put on a partnership of 65 in 12 overs to get us back on track. Then i got out for 32 to leave us 135-5 after 32 overs. Things got nervy though as runs started to dry up and they brought the field in to stop the quick singles. There was also some average batting from the guys lower down and it did get tense. With 10 overs left we needed 21 but only had 3 wickets remaining....so we were 164-7. We got home with 3 overs remaining!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WE WON BY 5 RUNS!!!!!!

Ridiclously tense however a win is a win, and we only have 2 games left!

My performance: 4-30 and 32 runs
