We had our first league of the season on saturday, which also signalled the start of my 3rd season of captaincy
To say it didnt go well would be an understatement....the first half of the game went ok, but it seemed to get worse as the day went on
This was my side
1.G.Hope
2.I.Barstable
3.T.Hunt
4.N.Maynard (wk)
5.G.Jackson
6.C.Easter
7.R.Mendis (overseas)
8.CAPTAIN CF (C)
9.J.Long
10.P.Terry
11.H.Connor
A couple of changes from last year...my 3 and 4 from last year, have gone up to open the batting as we have a serious injury to one of our openers from last year and our other opener has dropped to no3. Wicket Keeper maynard promoted to 4 this year, as we have a sri lankan overseas who can bat 7 for us... Our overseas Rishwan Mendis is a leg spinning all-rounder, he is 24 years old and apparently played in the sri lankan side as a teenager for their u-13 and u-15 sides...
TOSS: I won the toss and chose to field...chasing went well for us last year so i wanted to go for that method again
I took the new ball and wasted it...Sprayed it around! Went for 24 in my first 3 overs..got a wicket but only because the batsman top edged a half tracker straight up in the air. After 25 overs they were 150-2. I brought on my part time seam option G.Jackson, and he got wickets...he took 4 wickets, all filthy wickets, that were lucky...full tosses mainly, that the batsman kept hitting straight in the air to the fielders...however he at least got the wickets we needed. Our fielding was exceptional led by the ever reliable C.Easter, who bascially spent most of the innings sweeping on the boundary. My overseas bowled 10 overs for 45 taking 1 wicket on a pitch that didnt spin. They reached 240 AO with 8 balls left in the innings.....we were happy with that and felt we could chase that.
However the chase started awfully we lost a wicket in the 3rd over, with G.Hope edging onto his pad and then tickling onto the stumps...and from there it was a nightmare...we were 4 down with only 9 on the board....after 10 overs we, were 20-4 and always struggling...Easter made 40, but the rest of us all struggled, and we limped to 73 AO after 36 overs
NOT A HAPPY CAPTAIN
