Game 9 in the league!!!!!!!!!

Sadly we suffered our first defeat of the season played 9 games, won 7, one rained off, lost one

i had to make 3 changes to the side, as injuries forced players out

Off spinner Smith was in for mcKenzie, Left arm seamer Harris was in for Terry, Left arm spinner Poulton was in for Sammers..

2 spin changes and a seamer, due to injuries, ravaging my bowling attack..

I won the toss and chose to bat, on a dry surface which we knew would encourage turn. After the first 10 overs we were reeling at 21-3. We had been done by some swing with the new ball, and the batsman really struggled upfront. I promoted myself to no5 to attempt to play a captain's innings as we were in real trouble.....Me and G.Hope put on 120 in 20 overs, to get the scoreboard moving, however after 40 overs, we were only 146-6, as wickets fell and we only had that one solid partnership. I ended up hitting 74 with the bat, which was much needed, and J.Long hit some boundaries towards the end, as we closed on 190-8.

At halfway at least it was a score, but we needed to strike reguarly. I had a hunch and opened with a part time spinner, with a man out at cow corner, and the other at deep square, and asked to throw it right up. He bowled 4 overs was wicketless but only went for 18 runs, so i took that, but took him off. Spin was the way to go, and in all we bowled, 30 overs of spin, i had many different spin options. I took 3-21 from 7 overs in my bowling, so i personally had a good game, however they chased it down with 3 overs left.....

My performance: 74 with the bat, and 3-21 with the ball.....

However it was a loss and it was our first of the season

From 9 games we have won 7, had one rained off, and lost one

we currently sit 2nd in the table.

Bad luck that after a winning spree. Anyways you are 2nd in the rankings so not much to worry about.

yup, we had a good run, and like u said still sitting in 2nd place, in the promotion places, so still relatively happy, just need to work on a few things in training this week.

still not sure if the 3 players that were injured last week, are going to be fit this week or not, i really hope they are, as we missed them last week!

All 3 of the players who were injured last week, recovered and came straight back into the side

I lost the toss and we were put into field.

It was a dry pitch, which was defintiely going to spin, i had 2 frontline spinners and some part time options, and the 3 genuine quicks. Off the 5th ball of the game, we dropped a catch at short leg, off my bowling! Inside edge, bat pad, and Barstsable dropped it! We bowled a cracking first 10 overs, we had them 30-2 from first 10 overs, controlled the rate and eventually got both the openers out. It was quite a bad tempered affair in the field, as the other side werent shy of a word or two, and neither were we, at one stage the umpires did step in, to calm things down. After 25 overs we had them 73-4 and were right on top. N.Sammers had bowled 6 overs for only 12 runs, and was keeping things extremely tight...At this stage i had bowled, 7-1-23, was swinging the ball away, but as innings went on, bowled cutters as it was gripping in the surface. After their 50 overs they had posted 190-7. I finished with figures of 2-29 from my 10 overs...in a 50 over game that is impressive....

THE CHASE


We got off to a flyer. Off our first 15 overs we were 80-0...scoring runs freely, and hadnt lost any wickets. However we then lost 2 wickets in a over, as they brought the spinners on, and we found ourselves 88-2 in the 18th over. It was very tough in the middle overs as they bowled a lot of spin, and we had to push the singles and run hard between the wickets....After 35 overs we were 136-5...so rate had slowed down and we were losing wickets. I came in at no7, we needed 60 to win from last 15 overs with 5 wickets in hand....After 40 overs we had got to to 160-5, and thus we needed 30 off the last 10....we ended up chasing it down with 5 overs left.. i scored 34*...

My performace : 2-29 with the ball and 34* with the bat

WE WON BY 5 WICKETS

Game 11 in the leauge!

We started the weekend sitting top of the table!

However this week we suffered only our 2nd defeat of the season!

Won the toss and i elected to bowl first!

Unchanged side, the team we played were 2nd, so it was a top of the table clash, and it was a very tough game! I took the new ball and bowled my 10 overs all upfront with the new ball. It was a good move as i took 2-30 from my 10 overs. At the other end i went with Powell's medium pace bit of a gamble but i had a hunch. He bowled 6 overs which only cost 23...After 20 overs they were 80-3. We were on top at that stage. However one of their middle order batsman came out, and hit 90 and top scored for them, he played really well it was a brilliant innings. After 35 overs, they were 180-3 so they had accerlerated and we were now struggling. I used 2 frontline spinners, the pick of them was McKenzie who took 3-45 from his 10 overs. They eventually finished on 275-8.

It was never going to be an easy chase. After 20 overs were 129-2...so we were motoring along and doing really well. However the intoduction of spin proved to be our downfall. I found myself coming in the 24th over and i was batting 7..we had collasped to 132-5, lost 3 wickets for 3 runs....I looked to build a partnership but i fell for 30....we gave it a good go, but we were bowled out in the 46th over for 202....

My performance: 3-30 and 30 runs..

Quite a heavy defeat, but it was only our 2nd defeat of the season, and we dropped to 3rd in the table with 7 games left!
