we shall be doing, fielding drills, a lot of fielding drills, no excuse for poor fielding!

some work in the nets, and some work against the bowling machine.

Fielding drills are fun. Diving practice, Slip catching, turn by turn high catching, ground fielding (attacking the ball) and throwing to the keeper. Wow, refreshing memories. :joydance

its refreshing to see someone else, also enjoys fielding :)

i love my fielding, but many people dont, which i think is sad.......obviously i have the captaincy to think about when fielding, but i put 110% into my fielding, and i enjoy it :)

there's no excuse for poor fielding in my book, you can even practise on your own, you can always get better.

Don't mind fielding, quite like diving about cutting off runs or better still taking catches in mid-air like this one :thumb

IMO fielding is a very under-rated discipline in cricket, tight fielding can create just as much pressure as a good delivery and can easily influence the outcome of a game.

Which fielding drills can be practiced individually? I must say my throwing is rather weak in terms of power and would love to improve on that.

Agree. A batsman can go through a bad patch, a bowler can go through a bad patch, however, IMO a fielder should never go in a bad patch. That is because a bowler will bowl super spells to get you out for zero or a batsman will play a determined knock to score a ton and spoil your bowling rythm etc, but fielding is not dependant on batting or bowling quality. It is the fielder himself who can affect his fielding. The only pressure on fielder is from those batsmen who run very very quick and convert ones into twos.

Diving is something i practiced even at home on floor. For quick reflexes i used to throw the badminton shuttlecock on the walls and it used to deviate uncertainly, which improved reflexes and felxibility.

As far as throwing power is concerned try throwing near the shoulder level and sideways. That is what international fielders are doing nowadays. It gives more power for the throw.

I use to throw a tennis ball against my parents house when I was young. The uneven brickwork made for an unpredictable return catch. I was still shi.e in the slips mind.

sadly we have postponed..

the sun has just come out, but the outfield is very boggy, and cant do fielding drills on it, and the nets are soaked, so we will train friday, ahead of our first league game on saturday.

well going by the weather this week, may not need a spinner at all, pitch should be as green as anything! constant rain, spinner wouldnt be that effective this week, one would think.

I do hope we get a couple of dry days before saturday, last thing i wanna do is end up calling a game off due to waterloggged outfield etc...

pitch still needs to be cut and rolled, but everytime we go to do it, it rains, and messes up again :/
