toying with the idea, of changing team selection for this week's pre season friendly...

i played an off spinner in the last game, however i like going to the game with a left arm spinner, i did it a lot last year, but i cant decide at the moment, which way to go.

our next friendly on saturday is a home game this time, i went to the ground on the way home from work, to see what the square was like, its looking good....plenty of grass on the pitch at the moment, because it will need to be cut again, and rolled, however im hopeful it will still have quite a bit in it for the seamers, it really should do.

I suggest in giving the slow-left armer a run out if he didn't bowl in the last game.

Out of interest, how effective has the off-spinner played in games involved?

Last season when i used two spinners in some games, he was quite effective, kept things tight, and picked up a few wickets, however i do like the left arm spinner being used, i dont play 2 spinners much, i do have some part time off spinners i can use, but at the moment still weighing up options.

2nd pre-season friendly

11.00am start

TODAY'S GAME WAS AN EARLY STARTER FOR A FRIENDLY, BUT WAS AGREED DURING THE WEEK BY ME AND THE OTHER SIDE'S CAPTAIN

This is the team i chose

1.T.Hunt-
2.J.Jackson
3.G.Hope
4.I.Barstable
5.G.Jackson
6.C.Easter
7.CAPTAIN CF (C)
8.N.Maynard (wk)
9.J.Long
10.S.Mckenzie
11.H.Connor

I made one change to the side, with Mckenzie the left arm spinner coming in for the offie..

i also promoted myself to 7 in the batting order, and dropped Maynard down to 8.

We won :D

I won the toss and chose to bowl on a pitch that was tinged with green due to rain this week, but also you could score runs if you applied yourself. I took the new ball but i also opened from the other end with Mckenzie...an odd move i know, but i thought i would change it up in this game. The move worked, i gave Mckenzie 5 overs in his first spell with the new ball, he took 2-16 from 5 overs. I bowled 7 in my first spell, and was wicketless but only conceded 14 runs...so from 12 overs, the oppoistion were 30-2, there were 2 byes in them first 12 overs...we had them in a bit of trouble. We continued to take wickets, until there no8 came in and started playing some shots....he made a quickfire 30 before falling to me :D

i finished with figures of 2-32 from my 10 overs, my final 3 overs proved a tad expensiive but i picked up a couple of wickets so was happy with that....we had bowled them out for 145...

It should have been routine, however we were 2 down inside 3 overs...they had a fast bowler, who was swining the ball at genuine pace and in his first spell was virtually unplayable....after 25 overs we had got to 95-3, so we had re-grouped. Hope and Jackson put together a good partnership before Jackson fell with only 15 runs required..Easter came out and smashed the runs quickly and we finished the game with 11 overs to spare. Tricky chase a lot of work needed but a win's a win at the end of the day :)

im happy with the win, but with our first league game starting next week, a lot of improvement is needed.

im suprised it worked on that sort of pitch..

also one of the reasons for using it was, to try and get through a few quick overs.

Yes, it is sometimes useful in the shorter stuff to get through some overs as it can throw the oppo's game plan - particularly if they were as economical as they happened to be today...
