Generally a captain is as good as a team is in terms of results . However, depending on how good or bad captain performs a role in a match, the team performance can get better or worse. It is still an important skill . My view on captaincy is that it is a separate skill set and some of the things are only learned and improved after captaining the team. The players that a captain has will also have an impact on the teams performance and that is where conclusions are made that a captain is good or bad. To be more specific rotating the bowlers against certain batsmen, observing and allocating the end which a bowler is more likely to be successful due to wicket condition at one batting end, setting a good fielding, getting 50 overs in 3.5 hours in ODI, letting the bowler know what mistake he is doing is something which is good at. IMO a good observer and quick analyzer of the on field happenings are the abilities which help make a better captain. The captain has enough authority of the game and can have an impact on the match.

2013 onwards, Kanga league will be played after monsoon season, which has traditionally been played in monsoon. The reason for this change is most part of last couple of Kanga leagues seasons matches were washed out.

This year the format is different. The A, B and C division groups have been given names. The A, B and C divison will play 1.5 days matches (whole innings rather than over type) wereas lower division teams will play 1 day matches (whole innings rather than over type). The knockout phase has changed. There are in total 130 teams this year as MCA have dropped 2 teams from the 132 which played last time. The nockout teams will play matches against each other which is a major change in the way the knockout existed previously.

As i will struggle to be at the nets more than once when they resume after monsoon, i am opting out of the Kanga league.

Nets will resume on the day of "Dassehra " festival.

It has been decided that we will have internal league matches. Instead of 40 overs matches, we will now play innings matches in the forthcoming league matches to prepare in a much better way for the new format of Kanga league tournament. Being a specialist batsman i welcome this change very gladly because it will allow to play a test match type innings. It will also test the fitness levels of everyone, especially when the teams field. It will be interesting to see how many can cope up from 40/50 overs format to innings format demands.

The league tournament schedule will hopefully be prepared soon. However, i guess we will have about 1 and half day to 2 day per match played in one innings format. Generally at club levels the innings do not usually last longer. But 1 innings should last for well over 70 overs imo. Lets see in the forthcoming season.

As long as you don't get left bowling on a flat track.

It will help the U-14's age group boys a lot. They will be better prepared to play Kanga league and 3 day tour matches, than we were during our teens. The things that this format change over a course of tournament that will effect are fitness, temperament, determination, patience. Also, players will gather more experience as the amount of cricket played increases. For those of our age group, cricket cannot make wonders to us as our time to progress in career as a cricketer were well past two decades ago. But it is awesome experience to have this format matches throughout a tournament even now.

Arthur Crabtree wrote:As long as you don't get left bowling on a flat track.

Yes,it's tough. Most can field with full energy at the start. After 15 overs have been bowled i do feel urge to drink water in every 8 overs water in this heat and luckily by that time gap,it is time for a drinks break. Fielding during the 35- 40 or 50 overs is a pain but only motivation, interest in fielding and better fitness helps keep going till end of 40th or 50th over. A couple of fielders start ljogging behind the ball rather than chasing it at a acceptable speed. Having said that, after 35 overs thought has crept in my mind as to when the innings will end in 40 or 50 overs matches. Some wish for a water break every 3 overs or fall of a wicket . For them the innings format will be a real pain imo. Even for the fitter ones, it will take a season and lot of nets and fitness preparation to cope well whenever such format tournament is played. In short even a over bound match is tough. If it is a flat track, then it is going to be extremely tough as bowling innings will be obviously longer. The 45 minutes lunch break will be as big a boon as David Boon in such matches.
