Thought this would be a good idea to spark some discussion. At the end of each month we chuck out some nominations and then decide who is our top player for that month.

I will start with Usman Khawaja. Aside from the drama of his sudden recall into the Test squad, the Queenslander has found himself in exceptional form. After his two exceptional performances in the Fourth Test, he then returned to the BBL and scored 100 runs across two innings for Sydney Thunder. Seems a good bloke too.

Heather Knight is a decent shout, but doesn't cover a lot of cricket..... not much cricket for old Usman either

Meanwhile, the Bananaman completely turned Adelaide's BBL fortunes on their head.... 22 wickets in January including a 5fer and a 4fer whilst captaining them to a 6 match winning streak that took a 'nowhere near' side, shook them out of their torpor, propelled them up the table and almost took them to the final the hard way. Siddle was a beast in January

Im going for Marco Jansen of South Africa, who looks an absolutely frightening prospect for the future. He's got express pace, he gets the ball to seam around, and he gets trampoline bounce. A really impressive debut against maybe the toughest team around - 20 odd wickets @ 16.

He got (I think) Kohli out with a feathered edge on a ball full enough to drive at, nip of seam away, but more than anything its the bounce... from a full length the ball ended up above nearly flying over the keepers head.

I dont know what they feed fast bowlers in SA, but if this lad stays fit the sky is the limit

The South-Africa India series largely passed me by, but wow, Janssen looks like a find. South Africa (and Australia, for that matter) do seem to be blessed with a production line of ridiculously talented quicks.

My vote for someone other than my nomination is Siddle, because he won me the BBL fantasy league

Can't see beyond Shadab Khan for this. Missed a great deal of PSL but got 18 wickets in his 8 matches including a run of 5/28, 4/20, 4/15 and 3/25. On top of this he also scored 268 runs with a high score of 91.

He was my nomination in January and was cruelly deprived of Cricketer of the Month however I don't think anyone can argue that Usman Khawaja deserves it this time out. He averages 99.2 across 5 innings in his birth country and has risen from being unregistered on the Test batsmen rankings to 7th place; above the likes of Warner and Kohli.
