End of the line for Dernbach and Lumb?

Postby andy » Mon May 26, 2014 6:58 pm

Is this the end of the road for Jade Dernbach and Michael Lumb at international level? Eoin Morgan hinted in the last game, that they have gone a different way now with Carberry and Gurney.. Particuarly with Gurney. He said at the time Jade Dernbach offered something new and different, and now Harry Gurney does...is it the end of the road? IMO it is..neither have really convinced at international level, and both had plenty of chances..

Can't see them playing 50 over, but if they have good T20 seasons they could be recalled. The T20 side is hopeless. If this goes on, the team could keep changing.

I like Hales and Lumb opening in T20, Lumb is a no nonsense player who gets on with it and rarely has a lot of dot balls. His weakness against spin is often his undoing.
I have the feeling that Derbach loves the night life and that cricket is something to do during daylight hours whilst waiting for the night spots to open. He has talent and guts but remains rather raw and undisciplined in his performances. A transfer away from the bright lights to a club in the country might do him a power of good.

Lumb should be back at some point. I'd also be surprised if Jade doesn't play another T20 game for England.

It's more likely that Surrey is a rubbish club incapable of getting the best out of some players. A number have left and prospered elsewhere.

It maybe true, Surrey certainly has been poor at generating talent in recent times.... but a guy cant bowl that poorly and expect to be picked, imo. I simply don't rate him.

Scott Meaker never really did much after being recognised as a talent, Tremlett seems to not benefit from being there.....

Roy looks pretty good. It must be tough being a youngster at Surrey when you see every spot filled by imports rather than being given the chance. For seasons Surrey seem to have been fixated on the short term fix rather than building from within, almost like the anti-durham.

From what I've heard he has serious attitude problems.

That seems to be a problem for a number at Surrey and is why I alluded to Dernbach seeming a bit of a playboy.

At most counties it is the job of the senior players to have a firm and directed word as needed to stop things going wrong. At Surrey, the seniors are by and large brought in and on a last pay day ticket, it's hardly suprising.

Well, one of their star players mixed 10 shots of vodka, a few pints, some coke, then bombed MDMA and got run over by a train.... hardly sounds like a role model.

Their captain at the time, RHB, was with him and lived with him, and although denies he knew or partook of these drugs, was also the bloke who was around the night Monty went AWOL, and seems to have attached himself to trouble. Dernbach too was apparently drinking heavily with Maynard the night of his death.

I guess then you have guys like KP in the mix....

Not the best environments for youngsters.
