I'm glad he's a better player now, except that that means he must have been *modded* terrible before, which begs the question as to why, if he was that bad, he was ever selected in the first place.

Of course, he might just be talking bollox

It would be harsh to sack off Morgan straight away when he's barely awarded the captaincy.

I don't think it's the captaincy that's an issue as much as his lack of runs.

There are no ODIs until June, apart from the Ireland game, which will be a Lions team. So there's time to come to a decision. Things could change a lot if Moores goes.

It's really odd the way Morgan started speaking like Alastair Cook during this competition, who in turn sounds like Andy Flower. Their patterns of speech. Root talks like that now too. Maybe he think that's how captains talk.

Yes, not just what they say (bringing up good moments all the time even when irrelevant feels like it has come in from politics), but the rhythm of it. Long sentences broken down into short clauses, with a flat intonation that neither goes up or down at the end of each clause.

On immediate basis for next series only following should go forward imo

Mooen
Bell
Joe
Jos
Tredwell
Finn

Proven ODI prolific players like Gayle,Raina,Watson,Yuvi,Kallis etc have been dropped by their teams whereas the non performing England players who are no where in that class are getting free pass to the squad. Hard decisions need to be taken by England management as well.

Trott has to come back directly ASAP as most crucial player.

Other replacements i would try for two complete ODI series

Carberry
Vince
Luke

and anyone else who is in form in domestic tournament.

hold on a second adi , you talk about not picking people who have failed over a long period of time and then recommend picking someone who has a batting average of 20 and a bowling average of 60 after 50 ODIs ?

If Carberry,Vince and Luke are not in form they must not be be given free pass either.

it doesn't matter if he is in form

by definition he was playing well domestically before getting picked previous times

he is simply not good enough , if after 50 ODIs his numbers are that bad why assume they will be any better if he is given another chance

Bell was a flop before and was a bad ODI player imo than Morgan and others after 70+ ODI's approx , but now since his comeback few years back he has been much better. To be more precise about form, i have to say an inform Bell is 2.5 times better than out of form Morgan even though i had Morgan as englands second best ODI format player once. . Not any more at this point of time, maybe on next comeback. I say 2.5 times because Bell is averaging 56 @ SR 88 whereas Morgan is averaging 23.66 @ SR 73 in 2015 matches. Form imo makes significant difference in some cases. England selectors have seen how picking out of form players have cost them even a knockout place. Having said that, not every cricketer (Luke in this case) is certain to turn things around just because Bell did after the initial flop. However, we cannot rule out comebacks if Luke is in form. My point is replace out of form players who have struggled over past year with in form players. I am not aware of who actually are in form in English domestic short format tournaments, but i guess Vince, Carberry and Luke must have peaked in those. If not then dont pick them too. There will be couple of top scorers and couple of top wickets takers in domestic short format for sure.

Also, the 30+ cricketers need to be picked. There is no point denying them a place in squad just because they are aged. Performance should matter now rather than age, be it young or aged cricketer. Even if they are about to retire in 4 years pick them. Not filling short term objective and just concentrating on a team after 5 years will not be a wise move. The team is already shattered due to being below par personal records in past year and then being knocked out of WC and losing to Bangladesh. They cannot afford to handle a loss of another series. Before their confidence and morale takes further beating replace out of form players with in form players irrespective of their stature and age as an attempt to short term fix. In Englands case at this point of time i dont think it is wise to look to prepare for next world cup. The priority is to win next couple of series and then maybe once things settle and other experienced out of form cricketers strike form, think about 4/5 years ahead.

but you are putting forward names having no idea whether they are in form or not but just because they play in t20 comps around the world

I wouldn't care if luke wright was scoring 100s in every game he played domestically and taking 5 wickets , he has been shown to be not good enough at the top level

who cares if he is in form domestically , when he got picked for England previously he was in form domestically that's why he got picked in the first place , but he then failed to make the jump to international cricket, he got dropped, he was then in form domestically again and was given another chance, he failed again. we cant keep going round in those circles with guys that just don't have what it takes to play at the top level

carberry had a poor year, by his standards, in the domestic one day comp last year, so why throw his name into the hat now ?

just because these guys are playing in domestic t20s around the world doesn't mean they are the best options available

I put those names forward without checking their domestic stats but thet are good short format players so it was an asdumption that they must be doing good domestically. If they are not in form then i would not suggest them. Pick whoever are scoring more runs or more wickets.
