Who should open with Alastair Cook?

Postby Alviro Patterson » Tue May 05, 2015 10:11 pm

Now that Jonathan Trott has announced his retirement, England are still looking for an opener to partner Alastair Cook and a position that needs filling with the New Zealand test series not far away.

So in true CMS fashion, who do you think should it be?
"Stats are there to be broken" Dominic Cork
"They took all our players away, banned our captain and we still came away with a ten-wicket victory" Jason Gillespie
"You won't get anywhere slouching about half out of bed" Geoffrey Boycott

went for Lyth, not that I know much about him. And I'm pretty certain he will open.

Lyth or Lees. long term I think Lees but it will be a tough summer for openers and could *modded* his progress. Lyth being that bit older I'll go for him.

No Carbs?

I've gone for Lyth. Later in the summer, Hales for Cook, and Compton in reserve.

So you've assumed Cook will nick off for fun against Boult, Harris and co. Can't really say I disagree tbh. Would be surprised if he comes through the summer unscathed.

Cook had to score runs in WI to allow him to start the summer with some credibility, and he has, but the issues will re-emerge. Even at Bridgetown, he only scored runs on half the ground. At least he less resembled Ciao, the 1990 World Cup mascot (football).

Robson just made a pretty big 100.

Is he totally forgotten about? Did play last summer, now no where near the team.

Well done for this poll AP. I was going to do this but never got around to it and probably still wouldn't.

Good to see Lyth by a street so far. He deserves a crack.

Robson seemed to have technical issues outside his off stump.... got out a lot last summer prodding to wide balls or driving on the front foot to balls too short
