Not much of an Ashes record either.

I'm leaning towards players who have been in ten or more contests. Russell has been in nine. He's got a ton, but I doubt he played in a win.

He played in the dark days.

Jack Richards had a good tour of Aus, in 86/87. Whatever happened to him?

He got criticism for his keeping. But he was ok in that series. Most players who played well for a bit back then ran into the WI eventually.

Got a bit of daylight now. Haven't decided what to do with dead heats.

I remember being at Edgbaston in Summer 2001. I went to the bar to get a round of drinks when Gilchrist was on about 30, but the bar wouldn't for some reason take card and I hadn't got cash. I left the ground to get cash, returned with drinks and I couldn't have been longer then 45 minutes.... Gilly had passed a 100 already and was raging towards 150.....

Tremendously underrated keeper, entertaining batsman, as destructive a player as you could ever imagine.

Only one winner here

His Perth hundred was memorable. Really finished England off.

His innings in 1999 at Hobart v Pakistan was probably the greatest innings Ive seen that wasn't played by Brian Lara...... chasing one of the biggest 4th innings totals in history with the top 5 being utterly decimated, he just came in like he was asked to play against a junior school side, and smashed Akhtar, Younis, Akram and Saqlain around from ball one. Quite a fine attack that one.

I really do take offence at people suggesting he wasn't anything but a world class keeper too. He was so reactive to anything, especially standing up to Warne. I remember two examples, the first was a Michael Trescothick dismissal in 2001 when he slog swept at the short fielder, and he was aware to catch the rebound before it bounced at full stretch after hitting the fielder in the ankle and looping up in the air.... and in 2005, he took a catch that KP gloved into his chest, and as he moved the ball popped out behind the stumps and Gilchrist reacted to pluck the ball just off the ground.
