Viv stands out because he made the score out of the wreckage of a top order collapse.

ABDV's 149 from 44 balls. I dont think there is a legitimate case in my mind for any other..... he scored 20 an over, for nearly 8 overs. Ok, other innings went bigger, but none were as brutal and consistently damaging as this one.

The longer ones (like 200 in 150 balls, or those under 200 that are done in 120-150 balls or whatever) are obviously timeless innings, but they allow the person to play in, take singles between the boundaries, and are not as intensive. Coming in from ball one and hitting the equivalent of over 5 boundaries an over for 150 runs is mind blowing consistency, as close to perfection in hitting that one can hope to achieve. I doubt even ABDV thought when he got to the crease in his wildest dreams that he could have hit that many in such a short space.

I think after that, Viv's effort stands out in comparison to the players he played with.... an innings 20 years ahead of his time

surely kapil innings should have some say as well.
that properly the most underrated knock ever since no one ever saw it barring the people in kent.

I remember hearing about that knock recently, and it was said that due to damage to the main pitch area before the game, it was played on an extreme off centre pitch which allowed for an easy boundary over one side of the ground (where apparently he scored virtually all of his boundaries) and so much space on the other that simple nudges would give at least 3 runs if played into the right areas.

I think you can also discredit it for the fact it was a 60 over game, Dev remained not out, I wonder how many runs extra he scored in the extra 10 overs others no longer get. And maybe because it was against an associate side also.

Kapil Dev for sure

May have been only against Zimbabwe but looked at the state of India when he came in.

He came in with them 17-5 and they ended innings 266-8.

Dev got 175. The rest of the team got 79.

plus was the most crucial knock ever without him india would never win the world cup and india would literally not be as good or powerful right now without him.
He inspired a generation.
I know the boundary sizes were odd but I heard it wasn't that abnormal to the ones given these days.
plus batting conditions were tough at the beginning.

If Viv innings gets mentioned, Kapil should as well.
