There's no reason why both can't play. Just like they already have been.

more likely to happen as well if england can't find batsman in the top 6.
Although it would depend on woakes bowling since if woakes isn't good enough to get into the team with the ball England would be a far weaker team playing Stokes, Woakes, Ali and they would literally just have 2 men bowling most of the wicket taking or economy deliveries.

FTS does some lovely posts about the future composition of the Aus side from time to time.

From an England perspective I daren't look too far into the future but I think that the side will be as follows next summer:

1. Cook.
2. Plus one.
3. Root.
4. Plus two.
5. Ballance.
6. Bairstow.
7. Stokes.
8. Woakes.
9. Rashid.
10. Broad.
11. Anderson.

I sense that Ballance has staying power.

Hales potentially too but I see Vince being cast off.

Probably the only side with batting depth that would allow you to take out a front line batter and get another bowler in which would be scary for the opposition.

Ali could be the front line bowler.

Duckett and Bell-Drummond had Flower purring the other day, given his returning influence in the England set up, there's your 2 and 4 sorted.

That's about as likely as Sam Allardyce becoming England football manager.

Oh wait...

That's a Northants player. We don't do terrible. We either do atrocious or mediocre enough to bolster another county.

I've been unsure about Stokes's bowling being of international standard but at OT I was impressed by his pace and accuracy so maybe he is up to being a genuine 3rd-4th bowler.

Stokes, but there is arguably space in the side for both
