August Emering Test Player of the Month

An unusual poll to be running for many reasons - not least because a majority of these figures are names you will not be familiar with - however August has been a month replete with Under 19 matches as well as Emerging Teams touring. In an age where it is widely propagated that Test cricket is dying I thought it apposite to highlight some names for the future. Please look at the short write ups for each player and vote for those who you think will be the most likely to impress in the future.

Marques Ackerman - South Africa

The twenty year old batsman is the first of our South Africans on this list. The highlight of his month was a score of 156 against a Sri Lanka Development team. Overall he scored 203 runs at an average of 67.6.

Lahiru Kumara - Sri Lanka

The 19 year old toured England with the Sri Lankan Under-19s at the end of last month and the start of this month and hugely impressed with the ball. Overall he got 13 wickets across the two tests but if we look just at the one match in August his figures in the two innings were 7/82 and 4/52. Not a bad few days work.

Lahiru Milantha - Sri Lanka

Another Sri Lankan name in what has been a very impressive month for the Islands. Overall the twenty-two year old has scored 258 runs but this was bolstered by a huge score of 196 vs the South African Emerging side. Id he hits consistency could be a real danger for Sri Lanka.

Karabo Mogotsi - South Africa

The 21 year old batsman was part of the Emerging squad that faced off against the Sri Lanka Development Squad. Over the two tests that he played he scored 249 runs - however his stand out innings was where he scored 205*. His average per innings was 62.25.

Sandun Weerakkody - Sri Lanka

The twenty-two year old Sri Lankan has played three longer form games this month and has impressed with the bat and as wicketkeeper. He has scored 336 runs at an average of 67.2. He also had a hand in 5 dismissals.

Kuldeep Yadav - India

Yadav has been mainly playing T20 this year but has turned his hand to the longer form with consummate ease during the Duleep trophy. Over the two games he has played for India Red this month he has bagged 13 wickets at an average of 15.2. Many are tipping him for a place in the full India team.
"It has been said of the unseen army of the dead, on their everlasting march, that when they are passing a rural cricket ground the Englishman falls out of the ranks for a moment to look over the gate and smile."
