Waugh and Fleming. Title goes down under.

NZ pick up the most votes, seven, to six Aussies.

Best coach would be interesting some names out there.
Wright, Fletcher, Flower, The aussie dude that Warne hates so much that the top coaches I can name, Kirsten.
Hesson would be in the mix as well.
More interesting since they all failed and had success as well only Kirsten never failed and he probably never going to coach again internationally, although Flower never really failed either but he like marmite people like him or hate him.
Fletcher had success in England and failure in India but most indian players did like him while he was coaching and was the only reason he survived for so long.

Harder to know how much the coach does. We don't actually see them do anything, unlike the captain. My view is Fletcher saved English cricket, even if briefly. I can't imagine you could say as much (or similar) about any other coach.

just discovered this thread. Pity.

I am surprised that Punter was in the running, and M Clarke got 0 votes. (not that I would have voted for either)

As you said, AC, so many aspects to consider - leader, tactician, inspirer-in-chief, man management, national representative, lead batsman (or bowler, or keeper..), and a few others that I hadn't considered like legacy and direction of team, etc.

Each of the above two excelled in different areas to each other and fell down in different areas.

For what it is worth, I would have probably gone with Waugh, Ganguly and Vaughan.

Each of them fulfilled the ROLE of captain excellently - the JOB of captain, they also did quite well, but they all understood the importance of their role as captain.

That gives a winner then. Steve Waugh.
