Postby Dr Cricket » Thu Dec 22, 2016 11:46 am

Folks please pick a better team that the ICC test team of the year.
Warner
Cook
Williamson
Root
Voges
Bairstow
Stokes
Ashwin
Herath
Starc
Steyn
Smith

The only people that I agree with are Bairstow, Ashwin and Starc.
probably include root as well because it been generally a poor year for performances.

my team will be on the following post.

1 Cricket Major
2019 IPL Season.

MY team
KC Brathwaite
Azhar Ali ( poor year for most openers and these two impressed me the most in the short sample size)
Pujara ( only because he helped win games and Root hasn't)
Kohli
Bairstow
Q de Kock Keeper
Stokes
Ashwin
Starc
Rabada
Herath

Special mentions to Wagner, broad, looking at it been a poor year for batting only really Kohli got impressive figures to speak about although De kock been having a good year as well.

looking at it now a lot of the players picked did well during the sep-jan period last year.
feel odd picking players based on what happened on late 2015.

why ?

they have always used that rough period for their awards afaik because using just the calendar year usually means it starts or finishes when there are a few series in progress

they could have just announced the results in Sep/nov them making it look like 2016 test team of the year is a bit daft when half the months are not relevant to the title.
just looking at the team and you can see most of the players are picked on what they did in 2015.
Warner, Cook,Williamson,Voges and Steyn haven't really had a top 2016 and all really been picked on what they did in late 2015.

Would make more sense just to use the calendar year.

and given all the awards are for the same period why is that a problem ?

its quite clear that the awards are for the 2015/16 cricket year

Clears up the confusion just to announce it in September. Often the simplest message is the best.

The ICC year is from 1st October till 31st September, so I would have thought the team is based on performances during those dates. When playing condition rules are altered they come into effect on October the 1st.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.
