December T20 Player of the Month

Postby The Professor » Sat Dec 31, 2016 2:22 pm

A month that saw a smattering of T20is, the back end of the BPL and the start of the BBL means a huge range of talent to pick from this time.

Sean Abbott (Sydney Sixers)

Overall Abbott has got 9 wickets at an average of 12.3 - a very good economy. His 5/16 v Adelaide on the last day of the Month were the best figures ever recorded by an Australian in BBL.

Dwayne Bravo (Melbourne Renegades and Dhaka)

The first of a number of players who have split their honours between two teams. Bravo has scored 83 runs and bagged nine wickets in the five matches he has played in his two continents.

Oldreive Declan (Zimbabwe Under 19s)

Only the one T20 match for Zimbabwe Under 19s this month but Declan's eye-watering economy caught my eye. His figures of 4-0-6-3 went a long way to helping Zimbabwe to the win.

Afif Hossain (Rajshahi)

A month that began with a hugely impressive debut in the BPL ended with Hossain being a regular fixture in the Bangladesh Under 19 team. His debut 5/21 against Chittagong led to him getting 7 wickets in 4 games as Rajshahi closed out the tournament.

Emma Kearney (Melbourne Stars)

The economy figure of a bowler's stats are not as sexy as the wickets figure but Kearney has done a fine job of limiting her opposition. Throughout the tournament she averages just 4.7 an over.

Sophie Molineux (Melbourne Renegades)

The young Australian allrounder has burst onto the WBBL scene this year and has impressed with both bat and ball. In the tournament she has accrued 132 runs across seven games but, more importantly, claimed 5 wickets.

Ellyse Perry (Sydney Sixers)

Perry has shown her dependability with both bat and ball in this year's WBBL. She averages 29.5 with the bat and has chipped in with a wicket in three of the six matches she has played.

Harmanpreet Kaur (Sydney Thunder)

The Indian Women's captain was the first women's player that the BCCI had allowed to play domestic T20 cricket and she has very much made her mark. She followed up her debut 47* with a score of 30 and bowling figures of 4/27 against Melbourne Stars.

Andre Russell (Dhaka and Sydney Thunder)

Such is the nature of a T20 mercenary that Russell's month has been split into two continents - with his spell in Bangladesh being the more impressive. If you look just at his time at Dhaka in December he scored 85 runs across three matches and bagged 5 wickets.

Mohammad Shahzad (Rangpur and Afghanistan)

The experienced Afghanistani has shown consistency throughout December domestically and internationally. Throughout December his lowest score was 31 as he made his way to an average of 41.2.

Andrew Tye (Perth)

The experienced Aussie has proved his journeyman worth to his BBL team so far this season. He has got himself 4 wickets at an average of 18.25 thus far in the tournament.
"It has been said of the unseen army of the dead, on their everlasting march, that when they are passing a rural cricket ground the Englishman falls out of the ranks for a moment to look over the gate and smile."
