It had a majour impact on the England - India final last time. India's better T20 cricketers beat England's ODI cricketers in a curtailed final.

That was different though, you could go back to when the West Indies got a very favorable chase due to rain back in the World T20. It happens and we've got the players in the side who can take advantage of those situations now. Sure it's more likely to happen in England, but you can''t do anything more than have a plan for if it happens. Can benefit either side too.

Though India had better 50 over cricketers too, had there not been rain.

England got to the final thanks to winning some curtailed games, in my view because the shorter contests simplified them and they didn't have those complicated middle overs to deal with.

But England are better now. I've got a bit of a feeling conditions have flattered England's batters a touch, but exposed the bowlers. I'm not convinced the bowlers are as bad as they look, or the batters as good. But I can't give any evidence of that... Just my impression.

England have players throughout the order who can make big runs at a decent lick, that's the main difference. Our bowling is decent enough, and you'd generally back them to be able to work within the scores that batters can manage.

It's going to be tough to win the Trophy because there are so many explosive sides around. England have as good of a chance as any other side, but I wouldn't say they are favorites. We need Buttler, Hales, Roy and Morgan on song and we can probably beat anyone.

reserve days for final this time, so they probably won't play unless you can get 30-35 over game at least.
last time around the final would be called off if ICC didn't extend the time so they can fit 40 overs in.
not sure about the knockouts.

England had only two curtailed games one of which was the final the short game against SA came about because England bowled them out quickly. My point about the final is that if it had been a T20 game very few of the eleven playing that day for England would have been chosen whereas most of the Indian team would have been. The fact that India were a very good ODI team and might have won anyway is not the point.

Hardik, Jadeja, Ashwin, Bhuvi, Bumrah. Yadav and Shami as reserve.

Don't see what issues they have.

yeah for once bowling is not an issue, only really batting and even then you still have Kohli and Rohit in the team and the other are not really mugs either.

Jadeja was one who got through my filter for bowling since the last WC. Economical, but picking up very few wickets. SR about 75 (from memory). Umesh had also bowled enough, but was the opposite, a decent strike rate, but very expensive (Dernbach country).

I ignored Irfan in my list because he's banned. I wasn't sure if Steyn was out injured or not, so I included him, but I've got suspicions he's out..

these days most pace men are going to have a bad econ rate.
only a few world class pace men won't, especially one playing in the Sub C.

Are not England rather thoughtlessly being made favourites in the media for the CT for which this ODI series has been moved as preparation?

This is their record since the last WC against sides who have qualified.

Home
Won: Pakistan, Sri Lanka, New Zealand.
Lost: Australia.

Away
Won: Bangladesh, Pakistan.
Lost: India, South Africa.

So they have beaten the sides they should do, and lost to the stronger sides. The series with NZ at home is the sole example of England defeating a top side, as they've lost the rest, though proved competitive. Surely England can win, but the favourites should come from the sides to have beaten them.
