We all know who it will be, but who should it be?

Got to be Chris Woakes. Time to mend the fractured relationships with other Test teams, and who better than the Corinthian Chris Woakes. He has good experience in charge of England A and has a foot in the batting and bowling camps.

I picked Stokes. I'm guessing Hope picked Woakes? !

Oops, it was you Arthur.

Root will get it.

England under Stokes and Woakes feels like two very different things.

Who is VC?

In my scenario, Root.

KP gets a vote. Maybe Andrew Strauss has joined.

For me broad looks the best potential.
but always a reluctant to give bowler the captaincy, personally think they usually are good captain in placing fielding and bowling changes especially if they show tactical nous or generally know what they doing in the field.
always thought broad was a good thinking bowler.

other than than Buttler looked decent, Root should be interesting since he probably needs a good start before the media gets behind his back, he will have some stupid criticism from Chappell at one point and everyone does like criticising captaincy.

An argument against Broad is that some say that Anderson and Broad have been captaining England over the past four years...

The press/media has done so much to back Cook over the past few years that I can see his successor getting a lot of criticism as they seek to justify their previous stance.

No Ian Bell for me, England need him to stabilize the middle order and confound all those who think Joe Root is a shoe in.

No-brainer for me...clearly Joe Root

I would select Joe if i was selector. His form is consistent so there will be less situations when public and media will call for him to be dropped which means selectors will have to find another captain.

The bowler and all rounder captains are risk because of more probability on injuries.

Might as well vote for the obvious - Root seems an automatic pick given he's currently VC - be very surprised if the ECB/Strauss did anything 'left - field'.

Bell hasn't got a central contract any more and would need a stellar start in the CC to even be considered for the squad.

wouldn't stop Aussie or indian press attacking them though.
lets not forget Warne covers England home series and chappell loves to watch captain especially english and indian ones.

Although ECB press will nice and generous when was the last time they actually went against ECB Wishes.

interesting quote from Newman, Buttler in the future will be considered for the ODI captaincy, ECB like split captaincy from the formats.

Cook (as captain) 46.6- (not as captain) 46.6
Andrew Strauss 40.8- 41.0
Michael Vaughan 36.0- 51.0
Michael Atherton 40.5- 35.3
Alec Stewart 39.2- 39.6
Graham Gooch 58.7- 35.9
Mike Gatting 44.1- 32.2
David Gower 43.6- 44.5

Just to counter the relentless negativity among supporters about what the captaincy does to your form. Only Vaughan suffered. Many were better, but I'd counter that either way, other factors were responsible apart from being captain. What dismal pessimism we hear about the 'burden of captaincy'. I like to think my gloomy defeatism stands up to anyone's. But this long held belief is being severely tested.
