February 2017 50 Over Player of the Month

Postby The Professor » Tue Feb 28, 2017 10:29 pm

The ODI shortlist is always bulging more than a body builder's thong at this time of year so many a name to pick from this month.

Too many for a poll so pick your nominee below.

Hashim Amla (South Africa)

A month where, surely, his highest accolade was his inclusion in the all time A team on The Alphabet Game, he also did well in the real world. He scored 256 runs at an average of 36.6. His top score was 154 v Sri Lanka.

Trent Boult (New Zealand)

Boult looked something akin to his old self in February. He got eleven wickets at an average of 17. His best figures came against Australia where he got 6-33.

Daniel Burgess (Samoa)

The first of two Samoans to mask the list (which is not a phrase I normally use). He got nine wickets at an average of 16.8. His best figures were 3-14 v the Philippines.

Faf du Plessis (South Africa)

Two centuries marked out Faf's February. Overall he scored 419 runs at an average of 59.9. His top score was 185 v Sri Lanka.

Shubman Gill (India Under 19s and Punjab)

A young man that seems destined to get a chance in the senior setup, Gill had a great February. He has scored 460 runs throughout February at an average of 76.6. His highest score was 160 v England Under 19s but he scored three centuries in the Month.

Ayush Jamwal (India Under 19s)

A breakthrough month for the young Indian who has only played two first class matches before February. He played only two of the ODIs against England Under 19s but impressed with his economy and wickets in both. His best figures came on the 8th where he got 3-40 and 40 with the bat.

Suné Luus (South Africa Women)

One of the finest women Cricketers in the world had another great month in February. She got eleven wickets at an average of 20.1. Her best figures were 3-40 and 50 against Sri Lanka Women.

Benjamin Mailata (Samoa)

Mailata had a chance to shine with the ICC East Asia-Pacific Region Qualifiers this month. The all rounder got 11 wickets and 157 runs. His best figures were 5-27 and 58* v Japan.

Mohammad Nabi (Afghanistan)

The allrounder had a blinder of a month financially as he was signed by Hyderabad for the IPL. He scored 115 runs and got ten wickets overall. His best figures for the Month were 48 and 3-14 against Zimbabwe.

Shikha Pandey (India Women)

A key player in India's march to the Women's World Cup. She got 13 wickets across the tournament at an average of 14. Her best figure was 4-34 against South Africa Women where she also scored 21.

Dwayne Pretorius (South Africa)

A name that has somewhat fallen out of favour of late showed a resurgence in February. He got ten wickets at an average of 11.9 against New Zealand. His best figures came on the 25th where he got a staggeringly low 3-5.

Anshuman Rath (Hong Kong)

Another good month for the Associate batsman. He scored 134 and 85 against Netherlands despite the fact they lost both matches. Startling he is only 19 years.

Delray Rawlins (England Under 19s)

A very impressive month in all formats for the young 'English' batsman. 168 runs and six wickets in four ODIs against India. His best figures were 96 and 2-30 on the 3rd.

Chandrakant Sakure (Madhya Pradesh)

Sakure has made a strong start to Madhya Pradesh's Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign. He has got ten wickets over three games at an average of 9.9. His best figures came against Mumbai where he got 5-25.

Pauke Siaka (Papua New Guinea Women)

The allrounder impressed for the unsuccessful Papua New Guinea Women's team in the World Cup Qualifiers with both bat and ball - just not with both. She did the most damage with the ball where she bagged 8 wickets at an average of 6.6. Her best figures came against Scotland women where she snaffled six wickets for nineteen runs.

Poonam Yadav (India Women)

The star Indian bowler was a key cog in the India Women team comfortably qualifying for the Women's World Cup. She got twelve wickets across the competition at an average of 13.8. Her best figures came against Zimbabwe Women where she got 5-19.

Good options 365. From such an exotic menu I feel a bit of a tourist to pick someone familiar, but I'm going for Boult's winding back of the clock to the old school ODI stats.
I always say that everybody's right.
