Very seldom do I pick an outright winner for a category from a domestic sphere but the form of Dinesh Karthik in March has been so outstanding that it has forced my hand.

March has spanned the latter end of the Vijay Hazare Trophy as well as the Deodhar Trophy, a competition that the winners of the Vijay Hazare qualify for, so the Chennai born batsman has had a lot of cricket to play in March. Only three out of the nine games he has played this month, has he scored Under fifty. His overall average for the Month of March is 70.6.

His performances in finals is indicative of the style in which he bats. In the final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy he scored an 198 ball 112 - almost double the score of the next highest run scorer. In the final of the Deodhar Trophy he scored an even more impressive 125 ball 126 - just under double the next highest run scorer.

He is an impressive player who offers even more problems for an Indian selector.
"It has been said of the unseen army of the dead, on their everlasting march, that when they are passing a rural cricket ground the Englishman falls out of the ranks for a moment to look over the gate and smile."
