The return of the County Cricket has seen many excellent performances from some thrilling games in the opening rounds. Who do you think deserves the plaudits?

Nitish Kumar (Loughborough MCCU)

The University games often throw up a talented youngster and Loughborough have good pedigree. This year's star performer for them was Canadian international Kumar. His side played Division Two's Northamptonshire and Derbyshire against whose he scored 141 and 57 respectively.

Rob Newton (Northamptonshire)

Newton has shown some gravity defying performances with the bat in the Month of April. He started brightly with a score of 166 against Loughborough MCCU and has score three scores of fifty and over since then. His overall tally for April is 346 in 6 innings - an average of 57.6.

Sam Northeast (Kent)

Kent have started the season well and have relied on some combative batting from the oft overlooked Englishman. His best score came in the second innings against Sussex where he got 173*. Overall he has scored 269 in six innings - an average of 44.8

Darren Stevens (Kent)

The Kent allrounder has set about proving that age ain't nothing but a number through his performances in April. He has batted six times and only twice has he got below 50, leaving his average for April 32.8. He has also contributed with 22 wickets at an average of 11.5.

Riki Wessels (Nottinghamshire)

Wessels is going to play a big part in getting Notts back into the top division and has started the way he means to go on. His best score is his 202* v Sussex. Due to the dominance of his side he has only batted three times meaning his average is a very impressive 78.

Roeleof van der Merwe (Somerset)

The Netherlands international has been doing big things in the Royal London One Day Cup but has also performed in the longer form. He began the month with a stinking score of 209 against Cambridge MCCU. He has also impressed with the ball, his best figures being 3-26 v Essex.
