So far we have

2. Hales
3. Root
4. Pietersen
5. Collingwood
6.
7. Flintoff
8.
9.
10.

At the end we can choose from twelve options for who we want to leave out.

The vote on the other categories remains open so please contribute if you haven't yet.

Now the selection moves on to the spinners. Please choose two from the above options.

These are the stats on all ENgland spinners with 25 wickets v other top eight sides.

Just missing out with 20 wickets are Hick, Patel and Blackwell, who have a chance of featuring in the all rounder category.

I went for Swann (surely must) and Underwood. True Deadly might have been hard to hide in the field, but while his econ can be explained by the period he played in, his SR was very good as well, and better than most of the newer players. And he was a very accurate operator. I have a SLA and an OB.

Not sure Underwood qualifies. His best series is vs the Aussies in 1977, but that was a team with what, two actual players originally selected with the rest being booted for Packer? He hardly plays an away game, he isnt selected in the two world cups in his career, and looking at the bowlers for England in his era, there are 6 or 7 that have better averages than him with equal or lower strike rates (and a min of 10 wickets).

One is Edmonds, who carves out a 2.8 econ and a sub 20 average.

Swanns a given. Tredwell is a given too.

When you look at what Tredwell was able to do against people like India, with their all power line ups, its pretty incredible. Average for anyone playing exclusively post 2010 to be 4.75 is seriously impressive over 60 games. Wonder how many players retire with a sub 30 average in tests as a spinner, and an excellent record in ODIs, and were treated with so little respect.

Symptom of Flower power that..... I guess he failed his spelling test too

Underwood played a few games after the Packer era (from memory). I remember him in his post-Packer blue England kit. Before WSC cricket they played in white. None of his games were against weakened sides- he was a Packer player himself. Fair enough, it's a limited career. But its also how frugal he was in all cricket that gives me the hunch he should be in.

Can't see anyone else going for him mind. I'd have Tredwell, but I don't want two offies.

Swann and Croft, though I would only play the former.

Going to agree with Arthur on this. Swann and Underwood. Class is permanent...we can hide one "old school" fielder.

Trouble is I can't decide. Swann is in but still struggling to decide. Oh go on then. Tredwell even though I'd prefer a left arm spinner.

Quite liked his Raffles type bearing and looks, like he was a gentleman jewel thief who played cricket for England as an amateur.

Had an excellent tour of Pakistan when England won there.
