We now have twelve players to make up the England ODI side and have to leave someone out for a game against Australia at Lord's. Please select your omission.

This is the side so far.

Gooch/Trescothick/Root/Pietersen/Collingwood/Buttler/Flintoff/Woakes/Swann/Tredwell/Gough/Anderson.

I want two spinners, so Tredwell stays in. I'll leave out a bowler which still gives me Colly and Gooch as sixth and seventh options. It comes down to Anderson and Woakes. A tough choice. I decided to retain Woakes to give me batting at eight and a better bowling SR in the middle overs. I was a bit surprised Anderson made the best three seamers slots.

This may sound like a cop out...but surely , that would come down to the pitch and conditions , no ? That's why they pick twelve...

Yet another of these threads that I've managed to miss :d'oh:

FWIW this is my best-of-the-rest team to take on the CMS selection:

Knight / Bairstow
Hick / Smith R. / Morgan
Stokes / Botham / White C.
de Freitas / Finn / Underwood

You can vote for your omission Ian!

Trust that wasn't you voting for the only Warks player in the twelve.

Got the impression Craig White didn't play many ODIs.

I mentioned playing at Lord's but really I mean just a standard ODI good batting track.

51 caps apparently - oddly enough to make him 51st on the all-time England list!

My vote went for Tredwell, as IMO he is the worst player from the twelve. Although, looking at the bowling attack it might have been more prudent to leave out Jimmy.

I would probably replace both and select Hick at 3, a good support spinner if conditions required one: also meaning - if Carlsberg did ODI no. 9's - step forward Warwickshire's Chris Woakes :)

I think I included Hick in the batting and all rounder polls.

Surprised White played so many ODIs. Can't remember him doing much.

Got another deadlock...

I'm not in the least surprised he wasn't picked AC, although I was taken aback to see Colly chosen as the 3rd best middle-order batsmen!

I think he would have got the allrounder spot anyway if not picked as a batter (provided Freddie had been already picked as a bowler...). This though would have freed up another batting slot.

Definitely a better balanced team that way...

Probably, though Freddie at seven is at least a place too low (I'd swap Freddie and Colly I think).

By nature of a 'best-of' team: everyone that doesn't open could be at least a place too low, and there might possibly be an extra bowling option as well. Who'd be a selector?
