Away tours, WC's wins, they're overrated anyway

Postby ddb » Sun Jan 15, 2012 6:26 pm

So yeah not sure whether that title works but put yourself in an Indian fan's shoes(I know it's hard to stop laughing at the current team but take a break for just a minute, just one, come on). Let's travel back in time...

It's December 2010. India have just beaten NZ 5-0 in an ODI series at home, things are looking good for SA but no prep of course. At that point in time, India had a gruelling year ahead of them. Tour of SA, WC, IPL  , Tour of WI, Tour of Eng, Tour of Aus.

You were given three choices, can only pick one:

(1)WC win at home for Sachin etc, (2) 2 test series wins and a drawn series in Aus/SA/Eng, or lastly, (3) Cricketfan90 reveals his overrated/underrated ruler.

All of these looked somewhat realistic in December 2010.

Which would you take? Poll is up.

Yeah I guess. But was wondering because I'd reckon some England fans would take the test wins over the world cup but could be stereotyping unfairly. Personally I wouldn't swap it because it might not happen again in my life but I can see it split down the middle.

As much as the WC win would be a great milestone for team India, I would want us to win Test series and at least draw the series abroad. I am tired of us losing away series and coming back beaten all black and blue.

The series in England would provide us a unique opportunity to test our batsmen against some of the best bowlers. Can we handle swing, pace and foreign conditions? Boy, I sure hope so! Same goes for SA and Australian series. A win would be better but OP is hell bent on drawn series :dunno

I'd certainly take test wins over the the World Cup, as would many other England fans, I suspect.

I was just going through the File Thirteen (out of boredom) and came across this thread. And with a string of overseas tours and a World Cup lined up over the next 18 months, this may be the right time to bump this thread.
