Miller on England's recent ODI slump:
https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/andr ... ca-1356763

The hundred and proliferation of T20 tournaments has meant England's players aren't focussing on ODIs and we keeping chopping and changing the side and it's led to poor results. What a surprise :facepalm

that being said, though, you slot Root, Bairstow, Stokes and Wood into that side and it might not matter this year

Hundred for Haines. He does feel like someone whose boat has sailed though.

Dont worry, he will eventually transfer to Surrey and get capped instantly after.

Series wasn't as pointless as that rubbish three game nonsense in Australia immediately after the t20 WC. I actually ended up watching much of it and I think one could say both teams got something out of it.

For SA they really needed points for WC qualification - and sorting out the balance in their line-up. Got some of both. Think they have problems with a long tail and the spin option but they won't be too dissatisfied with results.

England profess to be unconcerned about successive losses but I fancy they'll be a bit relieved to get back into the winning list at the end : losing can become a habit too. More important : getting Archer back in action - and after a pretty rotten first showing he bounced back very effectively in this last one ! Time will tell whether he is ever going to be a consistent Test player (hopefully he will be able to play some part in the coming Ashes series) but that display certainly gave a taste of what he might bring to the defence of the ODI WC title. Roy getting runs at last keeps him in the picture but it may be Malan has advanced his cause a bit more ?

Test team off to NZ now - not sure who will be left over from Tests , rests and franchise leagues to play ODIs in Bangladesh ...

I see Madushka has a f/c 300*, will he be looking to pass that tomorrow? England when they get a 100 think job done.

I dont really have much concern about it either. The results on paper may not be that encouraging, but I get the sense that it will be a very different England team (in mindset, focus, etc) turning up at the WC.... and back to back WC wins in two formats tells me exactly what this team are capable of elevating too when they get in their stride.

Not that I think England (or any team) will be disgraced for not winning the upcoming world cup..... India are a very good team, and its going to take an absolutely mammoth task for someone to stop them winning in their own backyard.
