So would I. Saw it years ago and had pretty much forgotten it but remembering now some very strong performances from others as well as Hill - who was indeed terrific in his role. Well worth a watch if you can get it.

I can remember it being good, although its been 20 years since I watched it. Don't really remember any of the details....

The problem with journeying back to those sorts of series (not necessarily this one, but in general) is, you are often confronted with very different attitudes and realities. I watched the first series of Auf Wiedersehen Pet back fairly recently for instance, and while the nostalgia carried me through all the episodes, I don't think my wife was terribly impressed with the flagrant xenophobia/sexism that the series exhibited.

I let that pass. The worst aspect was English actors putting on comedic German accents, if anything.

the hotel where the 'boys' were staying in the film of the series is in Middlesbrough. I think it's still there... the Marton country club. I knew a fella who worked there and the bloke who owned the place in real life could easily have been one of the characters. Sort of a cross between Del boy and Basil Fawlty. Could easily have been one of the gypsies who scammed Yosser

Sad to read that Roger Corman, legendary Hollywood B film maker- who promoted many future star actors and directors through his low budget productions- has died at 98. In interviews, his love of genre cinema is infectious.

Five favourites of films he directed- he produced many more.

Machine-Gun Kelly (1958), tough gangbusters with Charles Bronson which paid little regard to real biography. But got it all down in 8 days.

The Little Shop of Horrors (1960), psychedelic horror for the counterculture which he co-wrote about a man eating plant. An early support role for Jack Nicholson as a masochist goofball who goes to the dentist for kicks. Budget- $22000

The Stranger (1962), original story by prolific associate Charles Beaumont, with a pre-Trek William Shatner spreading racial hatred around a southern town.

The Haunted Palace (1963), handsome, transgressive horror based on a HP Lovecraft story starring frequent collaborator, Vincent Price.

The Masque of the Red Death (1964), Corman's masterpiece, an adaptation of an EA Poe story shot in England in five weeks. Corman complained his English crew was too slow. Photographed by Nic Roeg.

Not a version of LSOH that I've seen. Was it a musical?

I prefer the 1960 version. Much lower budget, but much more far out.

One of the last "gun for hire" producers of the modern age. Has produced some wonderful albums over the years, a big lost for alternative music.
