McGrath is a hugely under rated bowler.

Richie Benaud is in hospital after being in a car crash. He's in a stable condition, and is expected to be out of hospital in a few days, having suffered shoulder and chest injuries.

They may not be that serious, but at 83, any damage is serious enough. Good luck, Richie.

There was no mention of helmet, either way. This fellow had played for Borders, and was running a school academy (of cricket), so I think he was a fairly serious cricketer. You'd expect he had one on, but I don't think I have seen an infallible helmet.

Obviously this is terrible for him and his family, friends and team-mates, but it also must be a horrible thing to happen for the bowler.

Nobody in our team wore a helmet, although I'm guessing the man in question played at a higher level than me. Even so, not all choose to wear one.

I have few clubmates who don't wear a helmet. Yes, the ball mostly passes through waist height here, but still you need protection for the beamers or even against spinner when the sweep top edge or missing sweep can cause severe injury to the face.

This is mine

Prices for Trent Bridge in the end stands remain very high, at £70. But curiously the day four tickets are lower (£50), and this is a Saturday. I wonder if that is a mistake! Someone has presumed day four is a Sunday. Seems hard to believe.

Have tickets for all five days, for the Tests against India.
