If passing the divide within English players to Steyn / A B D via sms is true, then it is very disappointing stuff from KP. In that case, he should not be in the team at all.

England players having a strop about KP having a chat with the Saffers during a warm up?

Just shows how incredibly petty the dressing room can be, but again it is KPs fault not the fault of a group of players being completely unreasonable.

Is KP your poster boy who can do no wrong? If he has been texting SA then it's clear that he has no respect for his team at all. I remember that Johnathan Trott even before being picked to play for England was accused by Vaughan of laughing and loking with the SA players on their last tour, what was you're opinion about that.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

If youd read my posts in this thread you'd have clearly noted that I disagree with the content of KPs demands so that deals with your first comment, I equally disagree with the double standards that have been used to criticise KP throughout this thread.

As I remember Vaughan's comments were treated by all and sundry as nothing but a player stiring simply to sell their book, just as a large amount of Vaughan's comments since he left the side have been.

I have no problem with KP texting SA players but if he is slagging off his team mates to them then that is another matter.

"Both men are said to be embarrassed that Pietersen — who has complained of dressing-room ‘politics’ and warned he could quit international cricket after the Lord’s Test — made contact with them during a game England needed to win to keep alive hopes of victory in the three-match series. "

IMO that is what i think no cricketer should do. And to do that during a test series is breaking the rules of the team ethos.

From your own article:

South Africa’s manager Dr Mohammed Moosajee attempted to play down the matter, telling Sportsmail: ‘I can confirm that text messages were sent but they contained friendly banter between guys who have played with each other in the past.

Look at the way the sentance is structured Adi, the bit you've put in bold is complete seperate to the fact that KP sent texts.

Splinters, it says that he sent in sms to both that there was politics in England team and also the retirement thing.

No it doesn't, the part in between - - is a seperate point detailing the history of KP after the Headingly test, it has nothing to do with the content of the texts.

It reads,

Both men are said to be embarrassed that Pietersen made contact with them during a game England needed to win to keep alive hopes of victory in the three-match series

This was 3 paragraphs down from the headline -

The text messages — reportedly sent to fast bowler Dale Steyn and wicketkeeper AB de Villiers — contained ‘less than flattering comments’ about Strauss and his team-mates.

And that bit is actually not supported by anything else in the article.

Is banter with the opposition not allow now? Contact between friends and ex-team mates is banned? i also dont think this could be true, as according to Broad yesterday players have to submit their phones to team management when test matches are taking place, maybe this was an underhanded rebuttal of something the team knew would eventually come out??? I thought the comment about phones was a litle of topic yesterday!!

I have no problem with this issue if its true, anyhow. You just have to ask the best team/captain and players ever in that Australian dominate team, a lot was said in the 90's and early 00's by those Australians(and echoed by a lot of ex-England legends) that they found it detrimental to England's players that they never turned up when invited to socialise with the Australians, they isolated themselves and in turn that multiplied the mental effect of playing them... both Warne, Waugh and McGrath spoke out in that tone many times. I remember McGrath saying once he went into a bar where some England players were drinking, and they upped and left when he tried to go over to them to say hello... he said it created an air of superiority that gave Australia extra confidence, and his opinion was it allowed Australia to become something more than just regular guys and fuelled the myth in England's players head that they were something more than they were.

Apparently Graham Thorpe was the only player who socialised with the old Australian team and also the player with the best record against them.... I think Thorpe was warned about it in the past.
