Ashwin doesn't chuck at all. He's becoming the best spinner in the world off this.

You can bowl mystery spin without chucking. Leg spin, googly, flipper, carom...

yeah I saw that too and that's why I cant believe there was any real doubt about ajmal

the whole reason the 15 degree threshold was originally brought in was that anything below that figure couldn't really be picked up by the naked eye , so basically if it looks like someone is chucking he probably is as if it was under 15 degrees you wouldn't be able to detect it anyway

ICC recently changed the chucking rules which meant he and others (Senanayake, Williamson, Shillingford - possibly Utseya, Gazi) are now over the limit.

Is it coincidental that it was not long after Mumu's retirement?

15 degrees was supposed to be the point at which the throw becomes visible. But bowlers like Botha etc were always obvious.

Maybe Senanayake was a step too far.

I like to see bowlers such as Ajmal in international cricket but if his action is at 40 degrees as some reports say then it's clearly his action that's the problem and not the ICC rules.

Maybe ICC could extend the limit to 25 for spinners but then Ajmal is still a way off that anyway.

My money is on another Pakistani bowler Hafeez. If his quicker ball is not a chuck I'm a Dutchman. It does seem that the quicker deliveries are the ones that are most often thrown, as Samuels ban indicated.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

It's happened exactly as Srini has become head of the ICC. He was appointed in June. First player banned in July.

When the ICC became lax on the rules it would lead to a big increase in people chucking. Thats whats now happened, and they have realised that they needed to do something about it. Suddenly they are reporting everyone with a suspect action. And everyone reported are showing to be chucking, some by large margins.

That old analogy that if it quacks like a duck, walks like and duck and looks like a duck, its probably a duck has proven to be true.

All those reported recently, i would suggest most people on here thought they had suspect actions. So its good that they are now being picked up, just a shame that some have got away with it for a period of time.

The issue of suspect bowling actions had come up during the ICC cricket committee meeting in June, where there was a general consensus among members that the current methods used to detect illegal actions were imperfect. It had recommended changes to help match officials get more support from biomechanists in order to identify illegal actions with "more confidence".

From the cricinfo article.

I don't think Shillingford and Samuels are related to this, although maybe that was a push from the inside before.

Herath is a different bowler home and away. Hardly took a wicket on the England tour. Herath is probably right. But Lyon is a fine bowler.

Well, they could have ignored it, like they did for a long time. They must have been covering up this before. Which is what many of us felt.
