ICC World Cricket League Championship: Namibia got revenge for yesterday's defeat to Canada by beating them by 21 runs. Namibia were bowled out for 154 with Rizwan Cheema taking a career best 6/34. In reply, Canada were all out for just 133 with Sarel Burger taking 3/18.

Current table: Image
Each team plays each other twice (14 games in all). The top 2 teams in this group automatically qualify for the 2015 ICC World Cup. Ireland and UAE are looking good at the moment.

How come Namibia and UAE don't have ODI status but are playing in this tournament? :dunno

They got promoted from Division 2 and this is a tournament for teams to qualify for the WC. They play 50 over matches (List A) and if two teams with ODI status play each other then it counts as an ODI. I think the top 6 teams in this will gain ODI status when this finishes.

The two teams that finish bottom in this will go to Division 2 so they don't require ODI status in that division. Namibia and UAE don't have ODI status because they were in Division 2 prior to the 2011 World Cup so they didn't need it then. You have to deserve ODI status which is why you have to prove yourself in Division 1 first.

Because it would make a mockery of the International game?

I don't think it would make a mockery of it but i don't think it is right giving so many teams ODI status. 16 teams is enough. Imagine if today's match was an ODI, you look at the best ODI figures ever and Rizwan Cheema's 6/34 is in the top 10 or whatever. I like seeing new teams like this which is why i am obsessed with associate cricket but they have to prove themselves before being upgraded.

For some reason, any team that gets ODI status is also given T20I status. If it is possible, i would give Namibia T20I status only.

I agree with bith giving 20T status only and the point that the records are bastardised by having so many minnows.

It's unlikely that the matches will be played in October/November but if they are then i might be able to go and watch a match.
