As an England watcher, he didn't cause too much damage, and averaged under 30, with two tons. I would have seen his ton at Trent Bridge live in 2002, but can't remember it. I suppose his key innings in these matches was his 83 in Chennai, but the one that most sticks in my mind is the scary run a ball 117 in Ahmedabad in 2012, when he was uncontrollable. So explosive was his batting there that Patel/Finn running him out when he started in similar mode in Mumbai, felt like a key turning point in the series.

As an Australia watcher, he was a player to be feared. Even though he averaged less against Aus than he did overall, his played better against Aus in Aus than he did in India. He never scored a double (or worse) against Aus, but he was always a player I liked to see the end of.

He could turn a test in a single session. That is not something that can be said about a huge number of players.

If he had retired in 2010, his stats would have been better. He should have retired then really, it was clear (and has been subsequently confirmed by Sehwag himself) that his eyesight started to go early into his 30's, and he was not physically fit anymore.

Before 2010 I would guess that Sehwag had a pretty impressive record vs Australia, and a better one against England then he ended up with. I remember, for instance, him being rushed back half fit at Edgbastion (I think) in 2011 and he coped two ducks and scored less than 40 runs in 4 innings in the series.

For a player who relied so heavily on eyesight in his prime, or hand eye coordination, it was a death sentence to his career.

Had his eye sight stayed there, and his performances continued a few years longer at his prime, we might be talking about one of the greatest openers in the game. Its hard to disagree about his batting talent, you had to get Sehawg out quick, or he was winning his side the game.....

Sehwag said Tendulkar convinced him not to retire in 2007.

I can't see them getting a look in to be honest.

BT have started flexing their muscle and by 2019 they could be the majority broadcaster for domestic test cricket with Sky getting a few scraps.

It's not obvious, in the era of TTIP and corporate rights if the ECB would be permitted to sell rights to a FTA broadcaster for less money than Sky or BT, even if it was in the interests of the ECB to do so.

Can't see BT and Sky sharing rights it will either be.
Exclusive Sky
Exclusive Bt
Shared FTA with sky
Shared FTA with Bt

by the way the FTA could be pick tv or the crap showcase channel.

sky will never share sports with Bt unless it is forced to.

Amazing when four years ago the BBC were looking to swing the axe at County Cricket commentary. Possibly down to the response of the BBC getting more audience figures in The Ashes through TMS than Sky Sports showing live cricket.

To be fair to the BBC, the radio cricket coverage of both domestic and international cricket is excellent and the punditry team far better than Sky.

Isn't it weird how the good teams at rugby are (with a few exceptions) are the teams that are good at cricket while the lesser teams at rugby are similar to the associate members for cricket?
