Only one Durham player.

The final 15 squad doesn't necessarily have to contain players from the 30 man squad.

I wouldn't rule out a return of an established campaigner, someone like Jonathan Trott, or worse still Jade Dernbach :scared

If recent form is to be considered i.e. year 2014, then the stats are as follows:

Moeen 45.50 @ SR 111.65.
Jos 32.41 @ SR 118.98
Bell 34.21 @ SR 90.8
Joe 35.11 @ SR 77.33
Morgan 27.16 @ SR 81.63
Cook 29.37 @ SR 71.97
Alex 23.80 @SR 73

England are carrying 4 out of form passengers (Alex, Cook, Joe and Morgan in order) in the current playing 11. Can they get out of bad patch with WC being very near.

Those stats don't tell a true story, where are the innings played and runs scored?

Harsh to brand Alex Hales a passenger when he has played very few games and Joe Root has done better than for what you've given him credit for.

Most teams now play 7+4 combo in ODI format with non specialist bowlers (pacers/spinners) doing the 5th bowlers role. England too would do the same. England also have failed to find new players until this point of time, so there will be hardly any surprises in playing 11 that played in recent ODI series, unless and until someone gets injured.

I did like the team that won in NZ in 2012/13 where we just used just 5 specialist bowlers in the series.

Jade Dernbach an 'established campaigner' ????????

The humour is good on this forum.

Dernbach's face seemed to fit in the England setup, regardless of how poor he bowled.

I just think England wanted something different from the straight up and down fast medium that is so abundant. Any mystery seamer or reverse swinger is going to attract attention in England. Tantalisingly, JD is 60% of a good bowler. If he never did anything worthwhile, he would have been moved on quickly. He was almost very good. But ultimately, wasn't good enough.

Now that Joe Root has scored his 3rd ODI ton of his career and also this year, it's interesting to see where does that compare to other international batsmen.

Given the fixture schedule, i've included matches from 1st October 2013 to this present day to give a fair assessment.

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine ... pe=batting

Looking at those stats, Joe Root is up there amongst the top ODI batsmen. Goes to show how far the lad has progressed since his debut two years ago and is more known for red ball cricket.

you can see why SA win a lot, amla, de kock, de villiers and du plessis have scored 19 hundreds between them in 28 ODIs, i bet england haven't scored that many in their last 150

AC did a list the other day of our batting in the last 18 months and we had 7 hundreds in total during that time , root's yesterday makes that 8

which is now that same amount as kohli has made by himself in the same period

agreed

must be a formality to comply with tournament rules , as he will obviously not even be considered for the final 15 , after all he only averaged 114.5 at a s/r of 154 in the domestic one day comp last year

Well, England asked to make the change, so they didn't have to.
