Yes. Morgan and Finn both should have to justify their places. In my opinion, at county level. Yet, Finn is in the squad.

Can't really say for sure that the old guard won't be picked. Bell and Anderson can account for their spots to some extent. Though personally, I'd like to see some new players get the chance to replace them.

Honestly don't see what Finn gains from an one-off ODI in Ireland. He needs a full, un-interpreted season of FC cricket if England are serious about him getting back to international cricket.

Bresnan's selection makes no sense either. Yes, Shahzad will be a good pick for ODIs. Did well in his limited opportunities but fell out of favour after the 2011 World Cup due to poor county form and had completely slipped into oblivion until the great start he's had this season. Hopefully, he'll have a good season. Could be an useful pick for the UAE Tests too, if in form.

I am not just saying this because he came to Sussex, I think you could look back on countless times I used the example of Shehzad as a player who represented the utter failure of Flower to integrate new blood into the national team, but its too soon for him. Like AC said about Gough on another thread, Shehzad just looked like a player who had everything to make it in tests, but that does not change the fact that he reacted very badly to his mistreatment and dropping.

Let him play at Sussex this year and if he can maintain form over 16 games, take him on the winter tours. You need him to build form that proves he can be picked long term, at the moment he would be one bad test away from the drop still, and that is going to kill the players chances forever.

Was thinking more of ODI cricket tbh. Agree he needs a full season before any thoughts of Test selection.

Rashid and Wood added to the ODI squad according to Mike Selvey on Twitter.

Tredwell being moved on?

Unless there's a reason to keep him in the WI, he's the first player to be sort of dropped after the WC. Presume Wood and Rashid will play.

Tredwell is an expert drinks carrier.

Well you can't say he's absolutely been dropped seeing he's on another tour, and with three leaving they need some sort of reserve back up.

I reckon Tredwell will be back for the ODIs against NZ. Clearly still in Moores' thoughts or he wouldn't have been selected for the Tests.

Dunno about his thoughts but he'll certainly be on his computer.

Anderson, Bell & Broad all left out of this series which suggests that either they are being saved to recharge their batteries for the Ashes series or (most likely scenario) that they are no longer part of England's long term ODI plans.

I don't think England selectors have learned anything from WC given the squad selected for series versus NZL. Many passengers packed yet again just like WC.

Really? Looks like the most dynamic squad England have selected for goodness knows how long.

Of the selected squad, this would be my XI

Roy, Hales, Taylor, Root, Morgan, Buttler, Willey, Rashid, Plunkett, Wood, Finn.
