I know Australia have deserved to win but can't just be me that thinks it's ridiculous they went off with 5 balls left??? Rain wasn't any heavier than had been at any stage of the game...

in fairness, it was ssiping down when they went off. England can have no complaints, they should have got the run rate up earlier. Those 12 balls where they lost 2 wickets and only scored 4 runs are where they lost the game

Slightly frustrating that there hadn't been a drop of rain in Canberra for a week prior to the game, and the forecast is completely clear for the week ahead too. They managed to pick the one evening in 2 weeks...

So, Australia noticed they were ahead on DL as the rain started to come, refused to bowl any balls, and end up winning on that after receiving a time penalty for not completing their overs in the allotted time?

Great for the sport that. Bit like rewarding a boxer a fight on the scorecards after he refused to get off his stool at the start of round 12.

The Australian captain should be suspended for a series and the game at the very least should be scored a no result.

Australia would have won the game almost undoubtedly, but you cannot reward a game to a team on a mathematical formula when the match was only incomplete because they refused to continue to play, knowing they'd win.
