Look at the bigger picture. Whatever the Daily Mail or other media say/write is irrelevant. The fact is that Pietersen sent texts to his opponents during an international game of cricket.

What was is in them is also pretty much the same - it's the fact that he sent them that's important.

Unscrupulous people are hanging around our great game waiting to prey on this sort of behaviour - recent history tells us that.

That is the nub of the issue of trust etc that Strauss, Flower etc have spoken about - it makes the game 'unclean' whichever way you look at it.

Dressing room splits, contrasting personalities and so on happen everywhere and have gone on for years - again it's not the point.

Hope you are all well!

Can't see why players shouldn't text the opposition. Are they allowed to talk to them?

It's a game. it takes place in the real world.

That was a bit disappointing, though we don't know the context. Pietersen may have felt disgruntled about the bullying in the England side, and felt he wasn't being listened to, or merely heard that Strauss was doing work for Cameron's Tories...

What real world do you live in AC, it's certainly not the world that I wish to inhabit and apparently neither does Andy Flower.

You live in a world where it is wrong to communicate with the people you play against? Or even form friendships with them?

Having a chat with them before or after a game is a far cry from sending clandestine text messages during a game, whatever their contents.

Many certainly believe the more serious allegations though, i.e. those regarding the sneaky text messages in which Pietersen referred to his colleagues in offensive terms.

Their credibility is due to the fact that no denial was issued from the Pietersen camp, nor did they take any legal action against reporting that would have been held to be libellous had they been proved to be untrue.

Yes, likening text messages, offensive to colleagues behind whose back they were sent, to other forms of contact between opponents, of which there are always many, both on and off the pitch, is one of the more surreal defences we have seen of Pietersen’s actions from some of his apologists.

You should really read the context of the comment before concluding hftb.

If you see earlier comments, KipperJohn said this -
Whatever the Daily Mail or other media say/write is irrelevant. What was is in them is also pretty much the same - it's the fact that he sent them that's important

to which AC replied this -
Can't see why players shouldn't text the opposition. Are they allowed to talk to them?
It's a game. it takes place in the real world.

Its a response to a particular statement made by a poster. Dont see anything wrong in what AC said.
Dont we blame newspapers continuously for picking quotes out of context and printing them?

Cowdrey and Sobers formed a lasting friendship, based on mutal respect and a love of life and cricket.. They were great mates but gave no quarter on the field of play.

How is that relevent unless you claim that Pietersen was somehow not performing to his best against Saffers?
Wasnt he the highest run scorer from the Eng camp and also the best bowler in terms of avg till the 2nd test?

Like many many others, kipper. Not sure I can see Cowdrey phoning Sobers and calling Hutton a tosser though :)
