Middlesex aren't taking this any further and quite rightly too seeing as they cleared his change in plans.

Dhoni has come out blaming the pitch for India's thumping in the second ODI, pretty odd statement since Sri Lanka won by 9 wickets with both openers getting 50s!

Isn't it time England started releasing more of the squad to play for their counties. Surely there are times when playing county cricket would be more advantageous than having more intensive squad training sessions. Bell on his return from his terrible time during the winter went back to Warwickshire scored a century, played for the Lions and came back rejuvenated.
Last year Broad was bowling poorly for England and went back to Notts where he took a hat-full of wickets and he returned a different bowler.
The old adage 'a change is as good as a rest' might be exactly what is needed for the England players.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Agreed, not all the team could get a game though, Essex and Lancashire don't have LVCC matches between now and the start of the next test though they do have Pro40 games I think.

Durham v Middlesex at Chester-le-Street
Jul 27-30, 2012 (11:00 local | 10:00 GMT)

Hampshire v Kent at Southampton
Jul 27-30, 2012 (11:00 local | 10:00 GMT)

Leics v Yorkshire at Leicester
Jul 27-30, 2012 (11:00 local | 10:00 GMT)

Notts v Sussex at Nottingham
Jul 27-30, 2012 (11:00 local | 10:00 GMT)

Those games are this week and the last of them end on Monday, three days before the Headingly test. As England often ply back to back test with a three day gap it should be OK.

Strauss, Trott, Bell, Prior, Bresnan, Finn and Broad could play. Swann maybe not if his elbow is a problem and Onions has a niggle so maybe not him.

The wicket was turned upside down when Srilanka came to bat ;)

Luckily Mahela didn't blame the pitch for the first loss. I can see more maturity from him to accept defeat .

England Lions squad for two 4-day games against Australia 'A'

Eoin Morgan (captain, Middlesex)
Jonny Bairstow (Yorkshire)
Matt Coles (Kent)
Nick Compton (Somerset)
James Harris (Glamorgan)
Simon Kerrigan (Lancashire)
Craig Kieswetter (wicketkeeper, Somerset)
Stuart Meaker (Surrey)
Samit Patel (Nottinghamshire)
Joe Root (Yorkshire)
James Taylor (Nottinghamshire)
James Tredwell (Kent)
Chris Woakes (Warwickshire)

This is the second time Morgan has captained, the first for England in an ODI. Can anyone explain why?????? :no

The counties lose players for this. And it might be why the Scotland ODI was cancelled. So I think there is no more than two for any one county.

Morgan was interviewed for the T20 captaincy.
