Yes. A nice 6,7,8,9 in ODIs would Buttler, Stokes, Willey and Woakes make.

11 after Westfield/KP/Monty.

I wonder out of those three who has the least chance of ever appearing for England from now onwards.

What, between our highest run scorer ever, a proven match winner with over 150 wickets, and a county player most famous for criminal activity? Hard to say.

Yes, you're right the latter will probably be in the three lions by the end of May.

Depends if he buys into the philosophy and ethics. And where he comes on Flower's introvert/extrovert continuum. Obviously as an Essex lad, he's got a better chance than most.

Maybe Kaneria can coach him about the intricacies of the international set up.

Is it knee-jerk to suggest that we might dispense with a 5 bowler approach?

I think the biggest decision facing the selectors/management/captain for this summer's first test is whether we play:

6-1-4
6-1-1-3
5-1-1-4
5-1-1-1-3

Although I have seen at least one mainstream journo suggesting 5-2-1-3 :!:

Cook
Robson
Bell
Root
Ballance
Ali
Stokes
Prior
Broad
Jordan
Anderson

Isn't that team 8/3 by the way, Ian?

I would have thought 6-1-1-3, but the only area of disagreement between Etheridge and Selvey was the batting order of 6/7/8 and choosing between Jordan/Finn.

The keeper's a batter. We pick our keeper for his batting. Not counting him as one feels like anti-five bowler propaganda to me... Stokes is probably more of a batter than bowler, and Moeen certainly is. Both are top five batters for their counties, but not lead bowlers (ie Stokes is a county fourth seamer, and Moeen is pretty much a useful part timer).

This thread was supposed to be for knee jerking but now it's turning into rational debate (almost), isn't that against the spirit of this thread
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.
