He made a pointed referance to his age during his statement announcing his retirement, personally I think he's made a massive error not retiring on the back of a series victory against Australia, a poor series against South Africa will make his position untenable in the side. There is no tougher assignment in world cricket than South Africa at home, his reflexes are clearly slowing and South Africa have the best pace attack going and they're going to be spicy wickets.

I think its fairly obvious at this stage he is playing on for his 200th test ( think hes on 198 ), would be amazed if he didnt retire after that

good to see common sense has resulted and he's finished with IPL, however IMO he should have retired from tests as well

Tendulkar will have one last hurrah with Yorkshire before completely retiring from cricket, his words.

It makes more sense to me for SRT to stop playing for India, and to continue for a while in IPL. Like many others have played on after their best international days are over.

Tendulkar doesn't need the money.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Indeed... Hope he sees light soon. SA won't be too kind to him.

SRT was struggling to shift his weight forward against bowlers bowling at 78 - 80mph in the IPL. I don't know what can he do against Steyn and co. in SA.

I would have thought Tendulkar would want to sign off at home, but that means playing on till October next year when the Windies tour and getting through tours of South Africa, New Zealand and England all of whom have pace heavy attacks.

If he doesn't make some serious runs in South Africa things are going to get a little ugly.

Two home Tests against WI are accommodated, which would take SRT to 200. Maybe that will be the end.

Almost certainly.

I hope you're right especially as the 2nd Test is likely to be at Mumbai but maybe he may think that retiring after a relatively easy home series, just after a landmark and just ahead of the toughest assignment in world cricket may be seen as "selfish" and play on till SA anyway? I hope you're right though. We can't afford any passengers in SA, especially batsmen given that we'll likely play 5 bowlers (I won't but they will). Also I can't see him struggling like this anymore. Its painful.

Good to see you back by the way, MS. Where have you been all along? Saw very little of you during the Ashes.
