I'm reading about Perth's own, Gina Rinehart at the moment Pardon. Not sure i want to read SMH and the Age anymore. She comes across with the awkward, intimidating intensity of a mob leader.

She's not endorsing the Australian concept of mateship in the article I'm reading.

She's a bit of a chip off the old block. She was memorably part of one of the wealthiest protest rallies on the planet when the mining magnates of WA protested against the mining tax a couple of years ago. Cheeky so and so's.

I don't get it. Australia's mineral deposits are the geological legacy of the nation. How can she be said to own them? If she has the job of extracting them, and Australia has the ideological need to give the rights to a private company, if course they should pay the profit to the Government.

Now she has taken over the Age/SMH and sacked all the editorial staff and will use them as her political mouthpieces. But she can't find staff who share her extreme views! What a situation.

She wanted to used nuclear discharges in her mining. She wanted WA to leave Australia, presumably to keep its mineral wealth.

It's a nightmare.

Maybe over here, NI will take over the fracking of Lancashire...

So which are the non right wing papers now?

There won't be one. Nah I'm being a bit unfair, I would hope that with the long-term reputation of the Age/SMH, the editorial 'tone' of the paper will be maintained for a while at least, though I'm sure the chipping away will begin.

Gina likes to see WA as like the West in American mythology where anyone with enough power can do what they want and anyone who tries to stop you is anti-West Australian. She wants the north of WA to pretty much be taken out of the tax system of Australia and feels that any form of even mild environmental law is tantamount to devil worshipping.

One of those classic Aussie families where the second generation are scarier than the first - see the Murdochs and Packers for previous incarnations. Rupert's and Kerry's dad's were kittens compared to their offspring.

Anyone read this weird article from Mark Nicholas. Presume he didn't write it, just taken from an interview. Felt a bit unsettled by it.

He forgot Captain Broad. Seemed an odd article to have written. Not impressed by credit given to Reeve and Hollioake as I imagine them all as friends, don't know enough about the era domestically to say he is wrong though...

He misses out Freddie?

I was looking at the social media reactions to see that our very own shanky was the third down.

oharar's post is apt.
