So no story then, just random theories about a player that retired in the last test of a home series at the age of 37 so he did not have to play a whole year away from his family?

Those stories were floating around well before this saga happened, tbf.

Oh, how can anyone speak anything against an Ex Hampshire player?

I'm not going to say he has definitely done it but its certainly not inconceivable either, the timing of Hussey's retirement was pretty suspect and given what happened with Katich, its not completely impossible that Pup might have nudged Hussey into retirement.

Pup and Katich had a fall out that was public knowledge, there was NEVER any mention of a rift with Hussey before the 4 players were dropped.

There was, maybe not on this forum but stories were floating around soon after Hussey's retirement. And yes, the timing is certainly suspect IMO. That came out of the blue. Why would a bloke retire in that sort of form? He said that he had made a decision at the start of the summer that he was going to retire at the end of it. In that case, why wasn't that communicated to the selectors? I'm not sure Hussey is the sort of person who'd want to leave a team in a Catch 22 situation ahead of 2 tough overseas assignments. If at all , he had planned to retire beforehand, won't he have done so at the end of the SA series and let a youngster bed in against the weaker SL? Even if he was to retire after the SL series, won't he have announced his retirement at the start of the series rather than after the 2nd Test? There were certainly absolutely no signs that he was going to retire.

I could be wrong of course, but the timing makes it a bit suspicious IMO.

you are seriously asking why a 37 year old with a young family would retire at the end of a home summer shanks ?

i dont believe for a second that clarke would be so stupid to oust a guy who has been nothing else but a model professional throughout his career and the only other batsman in the team who clarke could rely on to give him consistent support

do you really think he would be that stupid ?

Well, he did throw out a bloke who had been their highest run scorer since his recall to the team. So I won't be shocked. Maybe there were some personal problems. I'm not going to allege anything but just saying that the timing of his announcement was a bit suspicious. The selectors had absolutely no idea that this was coming, if Hussey is the team man and the selfless person that I think he is, he'd have intimated the selectors beforehand that he was planning to retire at the end of the summer. Announcing his retirement after 2 tests makes it a bit suspicious IMO. If he had announced at the start of the series or at least informed the selectors, I might not have felt so.

Just a feeling. As I said, I could be wrong.

i'd say it would be a far more sensible conspiracy theory to suggest that hussey saw all this crap coming if it has been brewing for a while and decided at his age with a young family that he really didn't need to stick around and deal with it all when facing almost 8 months on the road in the middle of it all
