Most other teams come to England in mid-May.

not quite right mike , we always start the home tests in mid-may , in fact the earliest we have had tests in the last 10 years the opponents were SL and NZ[/quote]
Not any more....

Last year, Sri Lanka didn't start their first Test until May 26, and the Kiwis have now taken a conscious decision not to accept any international cricket that majorly clashes with the IPL.

England are running out of teams agreeing to start touring the country in early May....

its ok to have a low-ish strike rate if you are consistently making big scores to allow others around you to take chances

bell does neither , you cant afford his strike rate when he is not going on to make the big scores like cook and trott do

please not bell back in the ODI team :Nooooo

Why not he's easily one of the best limited overs top order batsmen in the country.

im not sure a top 3 of cook, bell and trott is whats required in modern odi cricket

Yeah, never mind the fact that Cook and Trott are two of England's three highest averaging batsmen ever in ODIs (KP being the third), and have strike rates of 81 and 78 respectively, which are perfectly adequate in ODIs. Never mind the fact that England's ODI team is probably the most successful it's been since 1992.

After all, we all know that If you don't have a strike rate of over 90, you'll never succeed in ODI cricket.

After all, the following, all of whom have a strike rate of less than 81, were all terrible ODI batsmen and would never make it anywhere their respective countries' all-time ODI sides:

Michael Bevan
Michael Clarke
Matthew Hayden
Ricky Ponting
Sourav Ganguly
Inzamam ul Haq
Rahul Dravid
Brian Lara
Kumar Sangakarra

(and many, many, many more highly rated ODI batsmen)

But hey, why let the facts get in the way of a dig at England, eh?

Whatever is the case ECB seem to have one rule for Strauss and another rule for KP. Just not fair.

It's do with clauses in the central contracts players are given so can't be one rule for one another for someone else, it may have changed this year.

On twitter a few journalists are saying Strauss was given 'special dispensation'.

This sounds like a classic case of "More money to be made elsewhere with less effort". Play a few tests and a dozen IPL matches each year and rake in a few million instead of going on long tours.

Actually, Strauss never announced a formal T20 retirement but still a ridiculous rule.

Is this announcement a bit of toys-out-of-the-pram response for being reprimanded over the Twittergate comments I wonder?

i doubt it would be about something as trivial as that but wondering if something has triggered this behind the scenes
