Well I guess Surry will be laughing all the way to the bank, they made a rather speculative signing and it's just turned out they'll have him for most of the season.

dont count on it, im sure he'll find a way of not playing for them.

very rarely are there clashes between ODIs and the IPL tho , its actually tests that england tend to be playing when the IPL is on

"The ECB says that the terms of the central contract state that any player making himself unavailable for either of the one-day formats automatically rules himself out of consideration for both formats of the game as planning for both formats is closely linked. But Pietersen added: "For the record, were the selection criteria not in place, I would have readily played for England in the upcoming ICC World Twenty20.""

Well I hope this might let Bell open against the Windies in the ODI series, probably be either Hales or Kieswetter though.

I hope he does an Afridi and returns to ODI/T20I cricket. What are the odds on him coming out of retirement in September to play in the World T20?

Why not he's easily one of the best limited overs top order batsmen in the country.

This ECB's rule is the stupidest rule I have seen. For God's sake use a bit of common sense.

well we have got absolutely no chance of retaining the world t20 now, hopefully though steven davies is selected to open the batting in both odis and t20s with kiewetter being dropped

i think i am genuinely in shock, cant believe that our best t20 batsmen would retire in his prime and following his performances against pakistan in the odis :no

It's not the clashing that is the issue here. It's the overkill of cricket that meant he's played the 2nd most international cricket in the past 7 years(1st is obviously Dhoni) . So probably wants to extend his career by doing this.

You can see why England never do well in ODIs if Ian Bell is one of the best limited overs top order batsmen in the country.
