If we pick Nash as the opener, then we might not need Bopara as Nash is a 6th bowling option. So yes. But without KP we havent got a chance, to be honest.

its certainly big shoes to fill

maybe he had a bad run in the ODI side but he was still one of the few matchwinners we had , none of the potential replacements really inspire me in the regard , either people who have had loads of chances and failed to impress or youngsters who might or might not be ready to step up at this level

with KP retired and morgan in poor form our ODI batting suddenly looks uninspiring

Indeed!

KP was one of the few specialist ODI batter England had who could easily adapt to the modern ODI game. His retirement will have a huge impact on the targets that England set as well as how they chase scores above 260.

This should be the clincher.

Strauss never retired from T20, he was dropped.

Might be room for the inclusion of Shah into the T20 set up hopefully.

There are many articles which tells you that Strauss was given a 'special dispensation' I got one.

He should be in the side but he is no KP. He should be in the T20 side instead of Bopara or Bairstow or Buttler. Anyways, I dont think he will be picked anyway.
If the last T20 WC and the bilateral T20 matches that have followed are anything to go by, our World T20 chances have literally ended today. :(

Nick Hoult,

tbh i dont know if i am as worried about the t20 as i am about ODIs

the nature of t20 is more of a lottery and altho you obviously want your best players over a short stretch of games then anything can happen

an in-form KP was more essential to our chances of improving in ODIs imo

It's now essential that Morgan gets back into form.

Agreed.
Grey,if you have read the article, which I think you have, it is clearly stated that there was a mutual agreement between the selectors and Strauss that his game is not suited to T20 and hence he was not picked. No "special dispensation". It was purely a cricketing decision.

In the short run, yes. But we still have time to develop an ODI team as the WC is 3 years away. Not in case of T20.
