Feels like there are two layers of management that could be got rid of. At least D & MD is one job. Or manager and general manager as I'd call them.

Indeed. I think what is considered "English cricket at the ECB" should be redefined, because at the moment the national team seems to be grouped with lots of areas that has cross elasticity, but are hardly relevant. The fact that Downton was looking after things like the disabled teams or women's teams are an example, or with the academy. If you want guys to run those things, then give them a manager and leave the national team as the separate entity, with the coach of the national team reporting to the relevant board member for ECB's cricket function.

Strauss' role makes no sense, and if it does make sense, then he is not the right appointment. He should be nowhere near tactics/selection or anything on the field, just have the coach report to Harrison, who reports to the board.

I read that Moores is going to the Academy, so, like Flower, hasn't left the ECB at all.

I can't see anyone taking the coaching job if Strauss has the last word on selection.

Not sure an official policy of final say on selection will be the net result, but Strauss will be hands on simply because his head is on the block if not, and despite the role profile and independent responsibilities, he is the manager of these guys, so his say will go.... I guess that is what will happen with KP and the new coach.

I really hope Gillespie sticks away from this role.

I really hope Strauss can persuade Gillespie to take the job, need a bit of positivity to cling on to as we enter the antipodean summer.

Plus JG are great initials!

If Dizzy has any sense he wont touch it with a barge pole.

People in coaching/managerial/admin positions at the ECB are fair game at the moment.

Cook says he wasn't consulted on the plans to remove KP this summer but does agree with it.

It might be in Cook's best interests not to go on Twitter right now. :lmao

Essentially this is just making it look more and more like Graves decided to go renegade and got KP and his fans hopes up, when in reality absolutely nothing has changed from 6 months ago.

I wonder if KP is going to try to manipulate a revised (yet again) county cricket structure.

Surrey v Leicesterxhire will certainly be his only chance of getting another really big score. Sorry to be so catty but I've really heard more than enough from and about him.
