That's how I always saw it. Pretty shoddy treatment I think.

its sensible from him

his lack of cricket after being ousted as an england player meant he was in terrible form for all the t20 comps, a few innings here and there for surrey should keep him ticking over and an in form KP will get a much bigger IPL contract next year

KP's see ball hit ball, 'that's the way I play' manifesto, his no-fear and freedom approach, antithetical to the soul of the English game, has proved, yet again, that he is ahead of the game. How fitting would it have been for KP to have been in this side. In a way, he is its absent guru...

Press are saying that Bayliss asked Farbrace to back away from the team, sort of to be the anti-woodpecker/triple espresso, and let Morgan and the team make the decisions. Although few of these players, including Morgan, will not be putting pressure on the Test team, maybe the method will, if the Unlikablesare uncomfortable with this change.

I think it's fairly reasonable to ask you Arthur to name who is unlikable, and even why.

Damn, I meant The Unlovables.

Classically the Unlovables is the Flower team, but focused around his most identifiable side: Cook, Strauss, Trott, Pietersen, Bell, Collingwood, Prior, Broad, Swann, Bresnan, Anderson. My dissatisfaction spreads out from Flower, and stains most deeply the key players of the side, and least, the ones who appeared in rebellion, or aloof from the side. But basically we're dealing with a poisoned well. Possibly a great England side, but, one that's just hard to like.

So your antipathy toward Bell stems from your dislike of Flower, sounds as if a little counseling is in order.

Counselling may well help. I've never felt any affection for Bell, it goes back before the Unlovables. A lot of it can be traced back to the internet activity of battingforbell and other Bellievers, but not all. I try to stay away from the subject these days.

All different aren't we? I suppose I'm rather the opposite because I saw early on a natural on a cricket field, one perhaps which belonged to an earlier era - and he was rather the underdog in the 2005 Ashes. However, I hope I've been fair in my criticism too and was never keen on extremes on either side.

A one club man, (not mine), always ready to support his colleagues both past and present, KP included. Anyway it gives me the opportunity to say that I think the Ashes will be pivotal again in his career - if he doesn't do much with the bat then his international career may well come to an end - though I don't think he'll retire - he'll just go back to Warks where he's got a 3 year contract and score shed loads of runs. He's too much of a cricket nerd to pack it in.

Bell does come across as being separate from the Flower era, even remote from it. It may be that this is because he saw things he didn't want to be part of, it may be that he just is a detached sort of person (they certainly seem to see him that way, as Strauss has suggested). When talking about the remaining Unlovables, I do think of Bell as being separate from that group, and not tainted in the same easily definable ways as Broad, Cook and Anderson. My not finding Bell an attractive player is a separate thing that predates the decline and fall of the Flower empire.

But, it's just the way I swing. I'm not saying I'm right. Some of the Unlovables I actually like. KP and Trott I feel sympathetic towards.

He's gone for good now. Might as well start a "WG Grace for England" campaign as a KP one. He refuses to play any more red ball cricket when he feels there's nothing in it for him, he's pissing his talent away in T20 franchise dross around the world. Nobody cares anymore, he's the LA Galaxy era David Beckham.

Oh I like the idea of a WG Grace for England thread.
