Sir Ravindra Jadeja

Sir Jadeja has had a brilliant comeback in T20, ODI and Test match format. Not many months back he played well against England in the ODI series last year and his match winning performances in test matches were a major contribution towards the white wash of Team Australia in 4 test series.

Hopefully his bowling will develop much better as he has bowled long enough spells and overs in the recent test series. IMO that will definitely help him to develop as a better bowler.Having the batsman of quality of Michael Clarke out for 5 times in 3 tests is a huge achievement and he was so proud of it The onus is on him to prove that he can contribute 50's in test matches and then get into bigger knocks. He definitely has the potential as we saw in the T20 and ODI format with the bat at international level and although the triple were scored on batsman friendly wicket at Rajot (Saurashtra) it still is a sign that he can knock a test fifty or hundred at international level.Only time will tell.If he improves as a batsman to compliment his bowling performances in recent test series, then it will affect the team composition of the squad and leverage better flexibility to the Indian think tank in many aspects. Aged 24 and already enough of domestic and international experience I hope he will do better and win us more matches.

In theory he should be one of the greatest all rounders in the modern game - batting average of 50 bowling average of 23.

A lot of fans say he should be in team.Equal lot says that he should be kept out if the squad. My opinion is that he has made a brilliant comeback and given match winning performances in all formats, so he deserves more chance.

Bowling wise he has given performances at test level.Every time Clarke will come to bat against India, Dhoni will introduce Jadeja in the bowling attack. He was superb, in fact he contributed heavily with the ball in the test series.

I don't think he will become the greatest all rounder practically. However, i am very hopeful that he will contribute much better than Irfan did to the Indian team.

Fielding wise too he has made a comeback. His fielding seems to be much better than it was two years back.

I find it very strange how he's only made 7 tons but three of the have been triples.

Around a third of his runs in first class cricket have come from three innings out of seventy, that must be a record of some kind.

Just goes to show the nonsense of batting 'averages' - should use the median; I wonder what his median score is...

Wasn't aware of that. Is it given on cricinfo :?:

His home ground at Rajkot (Saurashtra) is probably the most batting friendly wicket in domestic cricket.iirc his two triples are at Rajkot.

Although he was selected as a partnership breaker bowler who can bat a bit, he took wickets like a specialist bowler but batted like a tail ender.Nevertheless a crucial contribution with the ball for the white wash but to be considered a test all rounder he definitely needs to start scoring on all wickets.

I don't know if it is a record but I can't recall seeing anything like that before.

In Tests/ODIs/t20s, his average (I mean his real average, not discounting not-outs) is 19.34 and his median is 14.5. :hmmm

I was having a chat with my clubmate. He said to me that Jadeja will not even score a single fifty in this test series. He predicted that after Jadeja had scored a triple and was selected in squad. It turned out to be true.

It wasn't quite clear to me, adi, whether you were commenting in your original post about his ability as a batsman, bowler or all-rounder. Perhaps I was thrown a bit by the comments about his triples etc., but his batting isn't exactly spectacular in spite of those.

I see at him as a work in progress to turn him into a all-rounder.Indian thinktank probably sees him in that mould too because they are not satisfied with the bulk of wickets he is picking. They want him to score runs and i think Dhoni has said lot of things which gave a feeling they consider more runs from him as he has contributed 50's in ODI formats.I agree that he needs to score runs because he is not playing as a specialist spinner, although to his credit he picked more wickets than part time spinners do.But those number of wickets will not come in every conditions and all opponents and that is when everyone will rightly look at his runs contribution in test matches. So it's good for himself that he scores few 50's in test matches to start with.

This is what he said recently about his status in test playing 11.
Though I did pretty well in the series against Australia, I don't think I have cemented my place in the team. India are playing most Tests away from the subcontinent now and I'm not sure whether I will be part of the playing XI.

In the sub con he can play as a an allrounder however outside the sub cone he's going to need to justify his place with runs.

How did he get the nickname "sir"?
:)
I heard it was because he scored quite a few triple hundreds in domestic cricket, and this is a jocular comparison with the Don....
