I heard it was because he scored quite a few triple hundreds in domestic cricket, and this is a jocular comparison with the Don....

There are many versions to story.

I think his critics used the term Sir as sarcasm for his performances. However, when he won matches for India in last few months, his fans started to use that term as well. Ashwin and Raina joined this tweets referring to Jadeja as Sir and it has become very popular. Many other Indian cricketers have started referring to Jadeja as Sir. Last week Dhoni joined this internet trend about Jadeja jokes etc and tweeted the following:

When you give Sir Ravindra Jadeja one ball to get 2 runs he will win it with one ball to spare !!

Sir jadeja was upset abt only 1 t20 match in a bilateral series so BCCI came up with the idea of IPL.so all the fans of ipl plz thank SRJ

God realised RAJNI sir is getting old so he created sir ravindra jadeja

Whenever sir jadeja makes an error its an invention and on a daily basis v get plenty of those, all patent pending

Sir jadeja doesn't run to take the catch but the ball finds him and lands on his hand

Then this image started to do rounds on internet (Twitter/Facebook) apart from the Rajnikant/Chuck Norri type jokes.

It is good that he is taking it in the right spirit. In a recent interview Jaddu was asked about it and he said the following:

Calling it a 'joke', 'Sir' Ravindra Jadeja says he has no problem with the prefix before his name as long as his Chennai Super Kings and India teammates are enjoying the all-rounder's 'knighthood'.

"I think it is a joke and we are enjoying. Nothing serious in that matter. I don't think I am a great man. I just want to be what I am right now. I am not seriously thinking about the title 'Sir' and all that. It's okay as everybody is enjoying in the team and it's fine," he said.

Personally I dont think he deserves a place in the Test, ODI or T20 team. His batting is too fragile, and he is tagged as an all rounder on based on his reputation of scoring 3 tripe 100's.

His performances against Aus in tests were good, but thats just 1 series. If you look at his ODI / T20 intl record over last 12+ months, it doesnt look that good.

He is referred to as Sir sarcastically, because many feel he doesnt deserve a place in the team, and certainly not the $2M in IPL.

The latest joke doing rounds was after the RCB / CSK match, when he got out on the last ball but it was a no-ball.

Catches win matches, but only of Sir Jadeja approves.

Jadeja jumps to No. 1 in ODI bowling rankings :clap

http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci-icc/cont ... 58737.html

Ravindra Jadeja has topped the ICC bowlers' rankings in ODIs, level with West Indies spinner Sunil Narine, after jumping four places.

Jadeja is the first India bowler to top the rankings since Anil Kumble, who topped the table in 1996, and is the fourth India bowler to do so, Kapil Dev and Maninder Singh being the others.

Dhoni has probably decided that on non spin friendly wickets he will opt for Jaddu rather than go for a specialist spinner.Jaddu did back him by picking 6 fer in the match. Now that he gets to bat at 7 in more tests, hopefully his batting will also improve.

Thats like saying Pujara won't last long in Test cricket cus he can't bowl 90 mph.

Jadeja is NOT a batsman. As a bowler, he runs circles around the overrated Gashwin.

shanky he's supposed to be an all-rounder, but he is nowhere near test class, he is a one day player.

Well he's more of a bowler now. His Test bowling average is 26 which suggests he's good enough to get picked for his bowling alone.

Sir is in tremendous form.In starting 3 Ranji matches this October he took 11/72, 13/113 and 13/135.

Followed that form with 8 / 76 versus South Africa, scored 46 runs and took 3 catches. The good thing about him is that he makes batsmen play. The extra pace can be used by the batsmen at times, but on some wickets if the spin bowlers bowl stump to stump at that speed on a turner, they are very difficult to tackle. Kumble was most dangerous spinner to face on such wickets. Jaddu too has exploited this wicket very well.

Match winning spell on a batting wicket by Sir where every other bowler struggled. 25-5-48-7 in 5th test of the series versus England.

Played a match saving innings in one test, match winning 90 in one test which made India favorites to win . Scored 224 runs @ 33.73.

Took 26 wickets in 10 innings. Fielding was also brilliant as usual with some excellent catching.

What a season for Sir this has been.

In last 14 matches he has picked 74 wickets in with bowling average of 22.54. Also he has scored 578 runs.

Player of the series in the Aus - Ind test series. In the post match interview he said that he has silenced the critics who did not considered him a test player. Yes , Sir what a performance to silence your critics. Well played. Without his all round performances we would not have been able to draw some matches and win some. In India he is a test match / series winner.

Had a great few months playing at home finishing the season as the world number 1 bowler. :salute

When playing in conditions that do not favour India's bowling, who will they pick as the spinner? Ashwin or Jadea? Or will they still play both?

To me, when we play on wickets which favor pace , bounce, swing we should pick our team by respecting those conditions. So more pacers than spinners. One spinner needs to be rested.

Ashwin would be the first choice spinner abroad. His backup would be Jaddu as squad member. If any wicket which looks to favor spinners then both will make the playing 11 imo.

3 Players to score 500-plus runs and take 50-plus wickets in a season - Kapil Dev in 1979-80, Mitchell Johnson in 2008-09 and Jadeja in this 2016-17 season. Jadeja has made 556 runs and picked up 71 wickets in 13 matches, both being higher than those of Kapil and Johnson's numbers. Jadeja averages 42.76 with bat and 22.83 with ball.
