Was that Cowdrey, Bannister, Greig and co. in South Africa, or have they had it since?

That's the line up I remember. I think they did the Harmison tour of the WI as well.

Only one good positive as far as I'm concerned, I can listen in the car without worrying about network coverage dropping out. Otherwise, disappointing to say the least!

Whenever I put TMS on in the car, I generally heard Blowers talking about cake for 5 minutes before going off to morning worship from Ely cathedral if it was around 10 in the morning, or the *modded* shipping forecast if it was any other time of the day. It was just a waste of my time

although...... back in the days when I tried to listen to England playing test cricket, I could pretty much rattle off all of the forecast stations, so although it was a waste of time, at least I was learning something

viking, lundy, portland, forth, tyne, humber, german bight, dogger, rockall, hebrides, fair isle, faroes, fisher, forties, fitzroy, cromarty, plymouth, fastnet........ these are the one's I can still remember even now... although apart from Tyne, humber, etc, I have no idea where these stations actually are

TMS was mine of information.... very little of it to do with cricket

of course, I could have bought a dab digital car radio and not have to wander off at these sorts of tangents, so it's entirely my own fault, but I would still have to listen to Boycott (although no longer Blowers)

there was even a time when I used to try and time my work so that I could tune into BBC radio Newcastle at the same time every hour in the afternoon to get the score from the Durham match, but these days Durham matches are over by lunch on day 1, so I've kind of gotten out of that habit

I resented the morning worship slot, but the Shipping Forecast fitted in well as part of the TMS experience.

Maybe they could have scheduled a break for the recital of a couple of poems by John Betjeman.

And the peeling of some bells.

And reflection on indomitable old spinsters cycling home from evensong.
