I might have liked to see them try Vaughan - I tend to like his analysis in the press/TMS - he seems well in tune with what's needed. But I think he rubs some people up the wrong way.

Vaughan would, or least I hope he would, be force to give up his ISM role. There's a bit of a conflict of interests - sceptics would point out that Vince is a client...

MPV always promotes the members of his 'stable'

Stewart used to do the same. They probably all do

Vaughan's been as critical of Vince's selection as anybody.

On another note entirely, apparently ahead of Pakistan's tour, Mohammad Amir has applied for a visa that will give him a pathway to British citizenship, as a result of having married a British citizen in 2016, and having a British child. He could theoretically be eligible for a British passport in 2023, when he will still only be 31. Amir for England anyone?

He applied just for a normal touring visa, but is said to be looking for an indefinite right to remain visa also. I'd very much doubt that he'd get one, or if he does it will be due to his status.....

Wonder how many people spend a year in prison after committing a crime on a touring visa, and get accepted for IRTR? Id hazard a guess its 0.000001%

A past criminal record is not generally a great set-up for getting a visa of any sort, let alone an indefinite right to remain in a country, but given that he's got a British wife and child, and has done his time, it may be possible. Immigration law in most countries is pretty labyrinthine, and Britain is no exception - my sister's spouse had a pretty horrendous time getting British citizenship, despite them being married, an EU citizen with a right to live and work in the UK, a job, 3 years' residency and no health or criminal background issues that could throw a spanner in the works. Even with all the right boxes ticked it took bloody ages.

Is Bairstow opening in Tests the world's most ridiculous idea?
"It has been said of the unseen army of the dead, on their everlasting march, that when they are passing a rural cricket ground the Englishman falls out of the ranks for a moment to look over the gate and smile."

I like the idea of Bairstow not keeping and batting anywhere in the top 5
"Stats are there to be broken" Dominic Cork
"They took all our players away, banned our captain and we still came away with a ten-wicket victory" Jason Gillespie
"You won't get anywhere slouching about half out of bed" Geoffrey Boycott

Irony overload; JB at last improves his keeping to a level somewhere close to to an acceptable standard for an international keeper, so he gives up the gloves and becomes a specialist bat.

The keeper/batter position is one of the few roles that is actually working.
